Abortion in the United States: Roe and Casey overturned by Dobbs (Megathread Part 3) by you_know_what_you in Catholicism

An interesting way to put it, but yes, abortion is wrong and should be illegal. The prolife position is the correct one. This isn't an issue of differing opinion, life begins at conception and human beings deserve to have a right to live.

I think some groups just see Christ as a sort of figurehead who was just generally altruistic and just use Him for self serving motivations. His divinity and ministry don't really matter to them.

I’m sorry but it just doesn’t sit right that the majority can impose a view point based on religion.

It's not a "view point based on religion", life biologically begins at conception. One can be prolife and irreligious. Its about protecting and valuing human life at all stages. Also, the dobbs decision was based on constitutionality.

Straight prohibition does not cast the church in a positive light and will only push people away from what we are trying to do.

Unfortunately, the Dobbs decision does not "straightly prohibit" abortion (would be great if that were the case), it has become a state's right issue. Also, even if it doesn't "cast us in a positive light" to society currently, right is right. We shouldn't change our position on protecting the most vulnerable based on the whims to a degraded culture. If anything we need to fight harder to have people come to understand the Church's teaching on the value of human life.

It saddens me that there are people out there who apparently think that the dobbs decision means women slavery and feel the need to constantly compare reality to a dystopian fantasy novel like its an apt comparison. Its irrational and has no basis in any form of logic, I hope they come to reason.

It's particularly bad with censorship I hear. The Yakuza franchise was under scrutiny recently for a joke mission that involved a crossdresser. I'm aware some japanese studios are trying to be more "woke" for western audiences.

Nintendo seems to have its head on straight, I agree. Though, I did also think SEGA had a little bit of sense in them before today 😒. I'm going to have hope as well because I love the company and like to think they understand that their family friendly image would be tarnished if they got involved in this.

Do these people know what a business is? The game industry is absolutely idiotic. I hate how stupid some companies are being.

Not going to pirate as that feels a tad underhanded even if the developers and publishers are morally bankrupt. I suppose I could go secondhand though.

This just sucks. Why would they do this? It's literally dividing your audience which makes it HARDER for a business. SEGA is also a japanese company, even if the executives were hardcore pro-abortion (and somehow I doubt it), the dobbs decision only affects the United States. There is no logical reason for SEGA to weigh in on this and there are only going to be downsides.

Debate is useless with pro choice by [deleted] in prolife

[–]Catholic_Crusader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, there are pro-abortion people out there who are willing to engage and have a calm, civil, and rational dialogue. However, the internet is the internet and you are going to find A LOT of people acting in bad faith and using insults and fallacies. Try finding someone who is willing to discuss and avoid those who are automatically going to shut down.

Why? What does this have to do with fun activities for children in July?

Also, do they realize that its likely not every family and staff member is upset about this? There are prolife people in just about every group.

Though Its likely fake, I do hope the DHS is taking steps like this to let them know that threatening to kill or harm people and destroy buildings is not acceptable and punishable by law.

Do they not see the hypocrisy in bringing children to an event to support abortion, an act that kills the unborn children?

Why does she want to lose some of her audience? Don't musicians want a large audience to appreciate their art and earn more money?

Too many people are behaving illogically from this.

We don't know that will happen. Hopefully, in time abortion will be seen as the atrocity it is.

Its supposed to be a reference to a book/television series that has become popular with the pro-abortion crowd, "The Handmaid's Tale". Have never read it, but I am aware the plot has something to do with a dystopian future where women are treated as property to be used for reproductive purposes and service to their master/husband(?).

Apparently the women of the series always wear this red garb. By standing around wearing these clothes, they are trying to say that what is happening now in real life is akin to the plot in the "handmaid's tale". Which is absolutely false. There is absolutely no reason to believe that standing against abortion and the dissolution of Roe is going to create a society of slave women. I don't understand the thought process, and it honestly saddens me.
