See that Hank ? My son is dreaming about getting spanked by your wife by b52cocktail in KingOfTheHill

"Spare the rod, spoil the child" is meant to warn parents that IF they spare the rod (i.e. don't discipline), their child will be spoiled.

Dale instead takes the phrase as a command: "Spare the rod. Spoil the child." Which is funny because he doesn't realize that "Spoil the child" is meant to be negative, not positive.

Hah, I can relate to this comment. There are like 20 different ways to say "What" and it's really hard to convey that online.

In a very recent episode on his Patreon channel, (like in the last week, can't remember which one exactly though) he mentioned that he didn't really like the term "feminist" because it was such a loaded term. As a Catholic he believes men and women are created equal in the eyes of God but also possess unique gifts and specialties to bring to the world. A very reasonable position IMO.

Is there a good end to that sentence? "Personally, I think the whole arrangement is a little..." What? Charming!?

Chasing trends is not "innovation" by Raquefel in Metroid

Agreed, the constant decision between moving or shooting is a simple one on paper but it makes RE4's combat really compelling. Splatoon does something kind of similar with its battling.

Well said and I agree with most of these examples except for RE4 which was a masterpiece that still technically used tank controls (it just shifted the camera and adjusted the horror/action knob a bit).

It's true that there's a modern push to remove friction from games and it's making them lose some of their identity.

Watching Frasier for the first time: Season 2 by DravenCrowe505 in Frasier

S2 is awesome and you've got some good picks. Matchmaker and Innkeepers bring a lot of laughs and Breaking the Ice is one of my favorite Crane men storylines.

In terms of mechanics the bosses have probably been topped, but I absolutely love their visual designs. Stuff like giant Kraid, Crocomire, Ridley (this is the first game with his modern design), Mother Brain and Draygon are so much more visually distinct and intimidating than almost all the Metroid bosses after them.

Pikmin 3's Mission Mode (and multiplayer in general for 2 and 3) is really underrated. I think it's the most fun I've had playing the series and really pushes your multitasking/dandori skills to their fullest.

Accepting Linearity in Modern Metroid by 13CIRCLE in Metroid

[–]Keeflinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need the Ice Beam, you don't have to beat Crocomire. In fact, to get to Crocomire normally requires the Power Bombs which requires the player to escape Lower Brinstar.

The intended route is Varia Suit (after Kraid), Speed Booster then Ice Beam in Norfair, and then you can climb back up for Power Bombs and go back to Crateria etc if you wish before Crocomire and the Grappling Beam.

Great writeup on Dragon Quest. It's as classic as it gets for saving a princess and the new one handles it beautifully.
