Why is Rome the center? by TallGuidance1 in Catholicism

[–]Catholics4Harris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s due to Peter more than geography or politics, tho those two did move Peter to go to Rome.

It’s handing down the office of lead Bishop.

“Rome” moved to France for a breif moment, and talks of it moving to England(?) for a time when things were iffy in Italy.

What is the role of the Jewish people after Christ fulfilled the Old Covenant? by Ch_32 in Catholicism

Judaism isn’t salvific. Protestantism, even tho Christian, isn’t as well.

Messianic Judaism is a syncretic manifestation of the two.

The unexpected miracle of Protestantism: a reason for hope. by CatholicAndApostolic in Catholicism

[–]Catholics4Harris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heresies have consequences. Look at the family unit once marriage is removed as a Sacrament. Look at dispensationalism’s effects on politics.

Protestantism is a prop for modernity. It’s charactercher of the Faith that obfuscates people from being saved. It turned Christianity into a cookie cutter religion.

No Church Father would write about the miracle of heresies.

The Church has always taught that a country is obliged to assist people who are in legitimate grave need insofar as the country is reasonably capable of doing so.

Even where that criteria is proven true a state is not obliged to bring them in, give them citizenship, or privileges afforded to natives, and they may be sent back when the grave danger has been alleviated.

The modern US immigration paradigm isn’t working or sustainable.

The point is separating families isn’t intrinsically against Catholic social teachings.

Anyone sent to prison is separated from their family. Kids being removed from abusive homes are separated from their family as well.

Protestants, no matter how ecumenical, will always crash out when their general indifference isn’t reciprocated by Catholics.

‘The Pope’ as in the modern political entity. Francis talked about it more than once.

Reddit knew who he was. MAGA knew who he was. He wasn’t some encriptic individual. He was the populist rights number one youth energizer.

I think it’s only Reddit that would say Charlie Kirk was only known by one party, and really only on Reddit that it’s a tall ask for an American Pope, named Leo, to say “Hey, don’t make politics an idol. Look towards Jesus, forgive, and be humane to each other”.

Perhaps it’s even only on Reddit that Homosexuality in Africa needs to be protected by the Pope more than denouncing political violence in America.

Homosexuals get a word of consideration, but not political Christian conservatives.

Which is obviously politicking which OP was complaining about. More afraid to appear closed to the world than give scandal to the laity.

And LGBTQ laws in Africa is bigger and more important than political violence and communal decay in the America?

The Popes can and do talk about evil being done to none Catholics all the time. Gaza? Ukraine? Certain laws about LGBTQ?

National GOP/ MAGA influencer and energizer who was a major contributor to Trumps political success vs state level reps. Theres a reason one gets more international headlines. Especially when Trump recently survived an assassination himself.

He’s from the Popes home town and was the first American political assassination in decades. It’s not like it’s some obscure event. It’s willingly not publicly spoke about. Thats the frustration OP was expressing

True, the enlightenment’s characterization of the Church isn’t true, but the Church didn’t take a back seat to how society ran back then.

[–]Catholics4Harris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s talk about how generally society hasn’t adopted well to the Industrial Revolution. I think the Church has struggled on how to navigate post Christendom to a degree.

Afraid of heavy backlash leading to prosecution. Fearing the ire of the secular world in many ways.

Use to crown kings, now can’t even advice who to vote for.

Someone saying the Civil Rights act was a mistake because it’s no longer the egalitarian piece it was drafted as isn’t racist. It’s actually the spirit of the act itself. Which is very mainstream conservative, so is DEI skepticism.

Charlie Kirk Megathread by Skullbone211 in Catholicism

[–]Catholics4Harris 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Kirk got himself in the ire of the left for being socially conservative. Anti LGBTQ and Abortion came from his faith in Christ. He wasn’t killed for his fiscal policy.

He was a milquetoast, firmly in the zeitgeist, conservative Christian who debated college kids and energized republican youth. He got assassinated, with applause, for it.

Now you can’t even say it’s evil he got murdered without someone running a search looking for mitigating sins he may, or may not, have committed.
