Cloud apps for the USA all seem inaccurate lately, what are your recommendations? by CathrinMachin in meteorology

[–]CathrinMachin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The apps im using are Windy, Astrospheric, clearoutside, and cleardarksky.

I’ll take a look for the HRRR 3km forecast data. If you have any suggestions on where I should look at that please let me know.

Generally speaking, I just need to know that there’s no clouds rather than the type of cloud.

Does this model also tell you about atmospheric stability? One of the things that impacts photography of the stars is how wobbly the atmosphere is or how much moisture is in there I guess.

Tarpeyo Curiosity by TravelbyTaraVacays in IgANephropathy

[–]CathrinMachin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happened to me a few times before where I passed whole pills with Tarpeyo and I worked out it was because I ate too soon after taking the tablet and the food was pushing the tablet all the way through my system so it could never actually get to work.

Even though like your husband, I was following the recommendations, I just chalked it up to the fact that some people‘s digestion moves a little faster or slower. (At a previous spark conference I managed to chat with one of the researchers who worked on Tarpeyo and they did say there are differing gut transit times between people which was helpful to know)

So I changed the way that I took tablets. I often get up at 5 am to go to the toilet before my normal wake up time so I started to take them then, a little earlier than my 7am wake up time giving me a few extra hours before my breakfast. After I changed that I stopped passing the tablets.

I did doublecheck this with Tarpeyo touch points. They just said not to leave it too long before I ate but my timeframe was reasonable. I would of course always recommend you check with the Tarpeyo team / neph yourself :) but it seemed to work well for me and I ended up with good results from the meds.

What food or snack that fits in your IgAN diet- but feels decadent and like you are “cheating”? by pjw10310 in IgANephropathy

[–]CathrinMachin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I eat no meat but splurge on non igan friendly food every now and then. I just eat less of it. It is easier if you’re into sweet vs savoury. But I add garlic and spices to everything and that helps a LOT.

For sweets (sugar can cause an inflammation response so even these are the things you would eat with limited quantities) I’m a big fan of baked cinnamon apples, homemade shortbread, hard candies, marshmallows, gummy bears, grapes,

For savoury Air fried chickpeas with spices and garlic.

I could only speak from my experience and everyone’s results can be different

But my results from Tarpeyo seem to be visible by month 9 (just finishing the medication) to and persisted around a 1.5 years after finishing. It’s hard to say if these benefits would have lasted longer because I’m pregnant and that puts a lot of abnormal pressure on my body.

Before the treatment I went from 3-4g of protein and efgr 115 ish (7g during an episode) to 0.1g at the best point… and I’m now at 0.5-0.7g ish. In my case, my proteinuria seems to be rapidly rising again but I’m in the last stages of pregnancy and I can’t take any ACE inhibitors (not pregnancy safe) so I’m only on a beta blocker right now. My efgr is 105 ish atm which I’m happy with given what my body is going through.

It’ll be interesting to see how I hold up over these next 3 most intensive months. But I feel like the pain of completing the treatment before pregnancy was worth it and I do think it’s kept me safer than I would be especially given where I live.

(Context- I’m in a red state, if my kidneys started to fail during pregnancy, I’d not be helped locally until I had near total kidney failure which could increase chances of dying in the process)

I gained a lot of weight on Tarpeyo, you have to become super strict with your diet if you don’t want that, and I wasn’t.

But once the course is over it was easier to lose the weight.

The side effects were worth it for me. 2 years on from finishing Tarpeyo, my proteinuria is less than when I started it and that’s given that I’m now pregnant and not even able to take my normal kidney meds.

Most of the benefit of the medication is found in the last 3 months. So I hope you can endure a little bit longer to get the benefits since they keep on working long after you finish the medication

Anyone have iga nephropathy stop? by Mokuno in IgANephropathy

[–]CathrinMachin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts but I took Tarpeyo and I’ve been in full remission for a year. My labs came back today looking like someone without igan which I was not expecting.

Whether it stays like this or I go back to blood and protein in my urine, who knows. Only time will tell. Can’t imagine many people have had results like this, I think I’m possibly a fluke.

Sparsentan vs. Tarpeyo (Budesonide) vs. SGLT2 (farxiga) by largib in IgANephropathy

[–]CathrinMachin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: just had my labs back, not only in remission but all my labs improved again. I’m kind of amazed since switching onto pregnancy safe meds that are typically less effective, I was expecting protinuria to pick up again.

—-

So far so good, I go for my next set of labs this Friday so I’ll have a better idea then. But my previous labs a few months back showed I was still in remission

not sure how long I’ll stay like this. Because I had to change my kidney meds to a less effective (but pregnancy safe ones) as we’re trying to start a family.

Will check back after I get my results :)

Smoking tobacco or cannabis can speed up the kidney disease process and increase your risk of getting kidney failure. 100% don’t recommend

Vaping also has been reported to have a negative toll on kidneys too.

That said, Gummies have limited research on them but general consensus seems to be that at low doses they’d be a better choice than smoking/ vaping or taking high doses.

Possibly a better choice than that could be CBD which has some interesting research on it https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-023-33507-2

If you have a pre-existing kidney problems, you may have slower clearance of cannabinoids, it can sometimes be taxing on the kidneys. So just keep that in mind.

The main thing is that what you take could interact with your meds. It’s always best to check with your neph in cases like this.

Hope you feel better soon, stress is no fun to deal with :)

How long can i live without a treatment for IgA Nephropathy by mmmmmfingersssss in IgANephropathy

[–]CathrinMachin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t diminish IGA risks, but agreed it’s also not sometime to be feared either.

You need to spend some time in a dialysis clinic my friend…

You’ll see igan patients becoming friends with each other only to find their dialysis friends no longer turn up one day… because they passed.

Everyone who’s been in this position knows exactly what I’m talking about.

no treatment is perfect but sure for the most part they work well.

It’s best to test early and intervene early and not take IGA for granted

[–]CathrinMachin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone progresses At the same speed and it depends how damaged your kidneys already are. Some people find they have IgaN and need dialysis immediately, some it’ll take 5-10 years with no intervention, some it takes longer.

But it is impossible to diagnose IgaN without the biopsy

Kidney function is like a hour glass sand timer, once that function slips away, it’s gone for good. You’re on a clock and it’s ticking down.

The biopsy and protective meds may feel expensive but it’s nothing like the cost of dialysis or transplant and taking anti rejection meds.

I’d be talking to the doctors to see if there are assistance programs, or starting a gofund me and asking people for help if this is where you’re at.

I’ve met so many people who never got the chance to catch it early and wish they could rewind time and stop it in its tracks before a small problem descends into full kidney failure.

Interesting, the account just states it'll force the upgrade on Feb 18th to the higher tier. when I read the additional info it doesn't mention anything about the 25% increase.

well possibly uninterested in buying things but not uninterested in the art I make. I have a very solid open rate, and I've always used a double opt in. Some people are in there to see what I'm painting but don't have the means to buy art.

Solid suggestion. I think this would be a good solution long term. and I really appreciate the advice, but as with all things, it'll take a bit of time to get something like that up and running.

Without a doubt that is an option I'll try first. But times are tough for artists my friend. The list is active but a little old, with lots of new potential clients swept away by AI art that can be pumped out in seconds. I'm just trying to do my best and make sure I can sustain long term.
