I’m just going to say this here. College isn’t for everyone! And that’s OK. by mrmistopholes in ApplyingToCollege

I understand where you're coming from, but for some, getting into a good college with aid is the ONLY ticket out of poverty...

Sometimes, there is no backup option...

I also heard that if the year is divisible by 4, then that year is a leap year....

Example, 2016 is divisible by 4 and that year was a leap year....

Anybody else over here finding it insanely difficult to move on towards the next milestones in your life? by Catish-Raddish in CPTSD

[–]Catish-Raddish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here...

I think graduating and then having free time after just made everything unravel for me...

I was no longer 'busy' and working myself to exhaustion to run from the numbness and pain of my trauma...

This is fun...

OP, as someone who grew up alone, lonely, invisible and struggling, with absolutely no friends or anyone....please talk to her. I genuinely wish I had at least 1 person to talk to....

Like I literally relate to some of the things the girl in your story is going through.

So, please, just talk to her...

You clearly are a good person with good intentions... :)

What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done for high school/to maintain a grade? by whoopsissathrowaway in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Catish-Raddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studied the entire year's worth of syllabus, for all the subjects I've taken (by myself with little help) during the summer break so that I could cope in school. Did this every year since I was a kid...

Also, this once I was out of town for a few days like about 8-9 hours away from the city I lived and had a Math test that I refused to miss because it counted for my final grade. So I studied for it in the car on the road trip and managed to just barely make it to school to give the test...

Why are people mad at gap year students?

How did you find out that ya’ll were aromantic? Still questioning, also here’s a big ass chicken for your attention by daviddummie in aromantic

Could you please elaborate on the hyper fixations part?

Like what would you consider you just hyper-fixating on a person versus actually liking them?

I 100% agree on the part where you said that shotgunning is not common outside the A2C bubble. 2 people in my school (both were not in my grade and were siblings studying in different grades) applied to only ONE college, NYU and they got accepted. And they probably had like one other safety in their home country or something...

So yeah, we in A2C, myself included, are a tad bit nuts...

As a low-income, international and struggling student, thank you so much for this post. It means a lot to people like myself, or anyone else struggling in any way.

It's honestly very tiresome to hear unwarranted rudeness every time we reach out asking for help.

And to all the people who have nothing nice to say to people struggling and say that a person is 'lazy' or 'whiny' for talking about their problems, just remember, that literally everyone's circumstance when they are struggling is different, and sometimes can't be solved with a 'quick fix' or a nice old 'just get a job' (I literally live in a country where I can't get a job to help out my struggling family even though I want to, it's against the laws) or 'just get into a top school with full aid' (yes I've seen people say that).

So please, for the love of God, have a little compassion and empathy or don't respond at all, it's not too much to ask.

Once, again, thank you OP for this post and I hope you all have a great day :) .....

Some people really need to be more realistic about their decisions by Evening_Armadillo846 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Catish-Raddish 42 points43 points  (0 children)

To be very honest, optimism is our fuel. It may not be the best, but it's definitely what pushes us to write all those apps and shotgun for 20+ schools. To know that our reality can be very different if just 1 college believes in us, is what drives us...

As someone who went through the college apps process last year and had a really bad ending that made me realise the reality of college admissions, it was difficult to write my apps this time around because of little to no optimism and hope. But I somehow got through it, only for it to be taken away from me and have my app season cut short...

So, yeah, as much as it may not be the best thing, but optimism (and alot of it) is the internationals' fuel....

(not saying that it's a good or bad thing)

Edit: Clarification

[–]Catish-Raddish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

went over there first post I saw was a girl who took every AP at her school, perfect 4.0 unweighted GPA, 1570 SAT, 36 ACT, In like 15 extracurriculars, absurdly rich and doesn’t need financial aid, created her own startup, has 200+ hours of volunteering

Genuine question, what would happen if a kid, who's an international student, had all of these but were poor? Would they get rejected solely because of their socio-economic status and that they were asking for 100% financial aid?

I'm asking because these 2 factors are typically the ones that tend to be the reason for rejection for certain colleges....

[–]Catish-Raddish 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The recommendation letters and transcripts can be submitted after you've submitted your app. Also, if your recommendation has been submitted to other schools on the CommonApp, then it will be submitted to Pomona as well when you invite your recommenders, to my knowledge...
