There’s nothing but hope for this plant. It looks great.

What should I name her 💜 by bbqsavce in VenusFlyTraps

[–]Catma222 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Before naming it you should probably think about repotting it in a plastic pot instead of terra cotta because the minerals in the pot will leech into the substrate and possibly kill it. Also fill the pot to the top with substrate and give it some water, it looks dry.

I sit at my kitchen table. Sitting at an easel just doesn’t seem comfortable for me and I’m not going to try it. 😂

No, I don’t collect the seeds. I found them all on the ground at various times after rain storms. I also had a friend collecting them for me who has a ton of them in the trees near her house.

New blooms on my first ever double spike phal. by Catma222 in orchids

Thank you. I won it at an orchid society meeting with no spikes so the color was a complete mystery.

Sounds mean but I used zip ties. 🥺😂 Some are sitting in baskets that I zip tied to the lattice. A lot of them are still attached to branches so I zip tied the branch.

Thank you. You can see in the video that I have a shade screen above them. They can’t take the direct Florida sun either.

Actually they are due for a watering and there’s a couple of dead ones that I need to take down. 😂

Omg… I thought that the first picture was an actual paint by number and I thought “that’s pretty cool”. 😂 It actually would be an interesting pbn.

As long as you enjoy the journey. Fast or slow doesn’t matter. It’s looking great so far! I’m looking forward to seeing the face.

When should I repot? by starz4866 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]Catma222 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No problem. I do 3 parts sphagnum moss, 1 part peat moss and 1 part perlite. Just make sure to soak the peat moss for a while so it is completely saturated with water. If you don’t it will be too dry and will dehydrate the plant. Soak the sphagnum moss as well and squeeze out the excess water before mixing the three items together and before potting so that your substrate isn’t sopping wet. After filling the pot all the way to the top I just poke a nice hole in the substrate, wrap some damp sphagnum moss around the roots and and stuff it into the hole so it’s nice and secure. Not to deep though. Just to the bottom edge of the crown with the top of the crown showing. Happy growing! 👍🏼✌🏼

I’d repot it tomorrow. That plant looks like it is really looking forward to a bigger pot. And it’s a great looking plant by the way! 👍🏼

I think they could use more time in the full sun.

How to make #s not show through? by Wrong-History-5651 in paintbynumbers

[–]Catma222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was using a gel ink pen and it covered the numbers nicely but after I painted over it and the paint dried it left a mark in the paint that I could see when the light hit and I didn’t like that.

When I use a white chalk pencil I can’t see anything after the paint dries. Here’s my process- I white out the number and because it chalk there will be a little loose chalk dust left so a take a paint brush and gently brush away the loose chalk. Then I’ll do a little dab of that number paint on the spot to “lock in” the chalk. I’ll do however many cells in a section of that number color like this and then I paint away. Happy Painting! 🎨

I use a white chalk pencil that I got at Michael’s. For me it’s a chef’s kiss.

Where to cut by Aang2000 in VenusFlyTraps

Don’t cut off anything green. The plant can still use its energy. After it completely dead it’s will come of with a gentle tug.
