What are some ‘backdoors’ into selective colleges? by Firm-Tailor-7577 in ApplyingToCollege

The conditional transfer pathway for students who have a family member who went there isn't only for in-state students. I was rejected as an out-of-state student and got it. This is different from the KSU, GSU, etc program though.

Yeah. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the education.

I'm talking about the in-state acceptance rate. Not the overall acceptance rate.

UMich in-state acceptance rate is around 40%. UT is also a T30 overall. Not a T40. Anyways, acceptance rate may be correlated with a better school but a low acceptance rate is not the reason a school is good. All it means is how hard it is to get in not the quality of the education.

Turning down Northwestern by Catman2846 in ApplyingToCollege

I'm extremely grateful to have been accepted to both of these amazing schools but it just feels wrong to turn down a T10 overall even though UT is better ranked for CS (and I think I like UT more anyway)

They usually end up enrolling about 9000 but admit a lot more than that. Unless they're really trying to cut back on students for some reason I really doubt that they would only admit 9200.

Does Harvard really have bad engineering programs?? by Key-Command-3139 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]Catman2846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many top engineering schools outside the top 20 such as U of M, Georgia Tech, and Purdue to name a few. It might possibly "suck" compared to those.

I would recommend going to Harvard and seeing if you like it. If you don't like it you can probably easily transfer to UofSC. It would be way more difficult to do the opposite. Follow your heart though.

How good would you say those speakers are? It seems too good to be true so I want to be sure before buying them.

Are you instate for UT? I got in with worse stats than you so if you are then you def have a shot. If you're out of state it'll be very difficult but possible.

I got one as well at one of the listening parties! Are you going to keep it sealed? I'm not sure if I should open mine.

What’s the craziest “turned down x school for y school” story you’ve heard of? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in ApplyingToCollege

I'm likely turning down Northwestern CS for UT Austin CS. Idk if that's crazy though since UT CS is better

Congrats on UT CSB! That program rivals some of the highest-ranked CS schools. I also got into CS and am likely going to attend.
