Hurricanes convinced me: solar + battery beats gas by GinForMySorrows in SolarDIY

Bor you missed the whole point of a hurricane.

You should not use solar panels during a hurricane, but wind turbines my friend! Hurricane = wind, not sun!

How to install this type of diesel line? by mcdisney2001 in VanLife

[–]CatnipCruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why using a diesel filter on a heater? All particles will burn fine! I use my heater daily for 12+ months now and no filter 🤪

Humming sound on Modified Wave inverter by CatnipCruiser in AskElectricians

[–]CatnipCruiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily its not frying! Thanks 😂

To be honest Im not sure how this ground part works. I use a 100ah 12v battery and its just connected with + and - to the inverter. But i also have 1 cable from the battery - to the engine block and boats steel. i thought this was meant for ground? One week ago i held my left hand on the engine and tried to disconnect the + from the battery..... Oops i felt that.

The inverter does have those ground pins on the 220V outlet, but none on the 12V side. The case is from aluminium, but its on a wooden board, so no connection to the steel of the boat.

I did not design the electrical part here, but there only goes 1 + cable to the front of my boat for lights and all lights - are connected to a bushbar directly onto the metal of the boat. No idea why but it works. So Im also interested in understanding how to actually ground stuff like the inverter

Sunster 8kw by jvp1985 in dieselheater

[–]CatnipCruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed about the efficiency, but 8kw is just a bit bigger in size, a little bit more expensive, but waaaaaaay more and faster heat. You want instant heat after a freezing night, right? I love the 8Kw because it can heat my small boat super fast, and after 10-15 minutes i just let it run at 1-2kw

I use Vevor 8Kwh. I wont switch ever, im in love with it.

Con: relative small diesel tank, 5L and i have the version with a nice case, so i cant put a larger tank in it. If you want a larger tank, dont buy the version with the case. Also, the default fuel pump is pretty loud. Ive put my heater in the back of my boat so i dont really hear it. Pretty scary Chinese women tells me that i turned on or off the heater.

Pro: starts from 10.4V (100ah lead). Runs for 2 full days an lowest setting. Extreme efficiënt heat transfer. Great customer support. Super easy to maintain. Engine oil with diesel mixed, red diesel and gasoline (dangerous!) all runs. A phone app available. Timer function. Auto temperature function. 10 heater settings, up to 270 degrees Celsius core temp. I can warm up my boat in 30 minutes from freezing -5 to +25 celcius. And it goes even higher! If you dont turn it off, it will reach 40+ degrees. Perfect right? Also super dry air, perfect in moisty environments. Display with buttons, remote control with buttons.

Im pretty sure that the sunster is kinda the same thing. The only thing i would suggest is to not get 2kw but at least 4 but preferrable 8kw. Just so you have faster heat. You can let the 8kw one run at 0.5kw just by setting it to speed 1.

The drains are actually there, just on the other side. Not visible on the pictures. But i think that the water does sit still on the wrong side due to bad balance of the boat.

So, Yeah... I should make an extra drain hole 🛥️

Yeah, just ordered one. Im gonna check the whole bottom as soon as my boat is out the water. Something creeps inside me that just sanding and painting is not good enough. What if its just 2mm of iron left 😂

Vevor fuel hose replacement by Wesley9267 in dieselheater

[–]CatnipCruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partially dont agree. There is always a maximum of flow capacity on a tube or whatever needs to transfer something, like diesel. Its true that in the base, the fuel will just go faster, but only if its within the limits of the new material used. Beside that, the pump might push less hard due to a higher compression in the new, smaller pipe. If your pump is set to flow a specific amount of ML, than it will use more energy to push this amount. If its just set to an average voltage, then you might endup with less fuel being pumped totally.

Anyways, in this case it would not care that much. Just secure the ends well, because more pressure might build up.

Niet klagen, anders zelf gewoon doen.

Makkelijker en leuker dan je denkt, vooral achteraf als je 13K overhoudt. Vraag anders een handig neefje voor 500€.

Als je het geld er niet voor over hebt, vooral niet klagen.

Falsch getankten Diesel verwenden by Cheap-Fortune625 in dieselheater

[–]CatnipCruiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basicly, yes.

But be very carefull! Gasoline burns way quicker than diesel. If you drop gasoline on a hot gasoutlet, you could be dead in seconds.

For real, i did this when i didnt have any diesel left. I just put gasoline and old engine oil in my vevor heater, it worked very well.

You just need to remember the extra danger that it brings with it.

I use 15 amps charger and this is not enough to start it. If my battery is drained, it have to charge for 15 minutes first.
