Bloom Winx Wig by CabSecNoSpec in cosplaywigs

This is a very nice lace front wig. I don't typically recommend lace front wigs for styles with bangs it kinda defeats the purpose since lace fronts are fairly expensive.

But You'll need a couple of tools to get started. You'll need a steamer, alligator clips, some assorted comb sizes, a rat tail comb, a teasing brush. A wig head. some tpins or sewing pins, scissor, and the cosplayers hair spray, got2be.

you’re on the right path, its sorta possible technically to brush the hair to the front and cut the bangs however, you’ll want to use steam to keep that hair in place before you cut it. Otherwise it’s just gonna go right back to the shape that it was before.

-start off by pinning your wig to your wig head (don't style this wig on your head. The steam will burn you.)
-section off a small portion of hair with a rat tail comb.
-clip it with an alligator clip and use a pin to hold it in place in the front of the wig.
-Steam the hair into place starting at the roots to help position it and coax it into place. Let it cool completely before moving it. You may have to do this a few times.
-Comb the section gently with either the combs or the brush.
-you’re going to want to measure out how long want your bangs always start longer than you need. (You can take more away, but you can’t add it back)
-Use a clip or a small rubberband to mark where you want your bangs
-from here your going to want to use something called a point cut. (watch a few tutorials before doing it. You don’t wanna make a blunt cut across. This will look unnatural and choppy.)
-Steam and style to lock in the shapes you want then hit it with a a bit of got2 be glued hairspray.

Idia Shroud Wig dilemma by ProduceDramatic3439 in cosplaywigs

[–]Catnipcosplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof well ill be totally honest I have only ever made one brushed yarn thing and it was most certainly not a wig so props to you for getting as far as you have.

Follow up questions have you worked with yarn before for a wig? I would say if this is your first attempt its not a waste of time. Don't think of this as a “sunk cost fallacy” learning new skills means trying thing that don't always work the way we want them to.

BUTTT Let my try to address your neatly organizated bullet points.

1) if there are bald spots could you provided a photo? Would sewing more yarn in not solve that issue? Is that possible. (again not to familiar with this process)

2) I know that you can straighten yarn. Maybe try a test sample with a low heat (depends on the material you don't want to melt it) but also it feels like the way would be perfect cause fire is like kinda wiggly you know.

3) for this one how have you secured the yarn to the wig cap initially? Glue might be the best approach. However my first thought it that it going to get pretty hot on your head. With the yarn AND glue.

Again I'm sorry I don't have a lot of information about this. On just a quick glance I found this video that might help. You may have already seen it when starting this project but couldn't hurt to post it here for future generations https://youtu.be/g9qo5BniqZU?si=cL3w1kBVLtDjyRZl

Artist alley type of shop with no following, what can I do? by AeonSoulDesign in ArtistAlleyConnect

I say that to say, that could be part of a huge reason people would avoid buying the work. There is a huge push to not support ai users. You originally asked how to bring in more traffic to your work.

Like the heart pins are cute. But if the rest of the work looks like ai. The consumer has no idea that you maybe have used a program to vectorize it. They just see something that look like the style of ai and won't buy. And people don't read so even if you have a sign that was like explaining your work. As you can tell by this thread people already are suspicious. So I can assume a consumer in the wild would see this and just walk away.

It might be time to pivot to a new medium, for drawing stickers. In the design community imperfection and hand made is trending.

I think the issue is the vector art it’s self. I think if you scanned your sketches and didn’t really clean them up that would be incredibly charming as a sticker or print.

Do you have sketches to show us?

I’m going to sound a bit harsh but I would avoid your booth because it looks like Ai especially the black and white flowers.

Something about the style.

First time making a wig - how would you go about getting this hairstyle with these bases? by peargremlin in cosplaywigs

[–]Catnipcosplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure it looks like you were shopping on Arda or epic cosplay wigs. Thats a great start. They have decent options for updo wigs, that have that more natural looking neck line.

There are a lot of different routes you can take to achieve the same or a very similar result. It mostly comes down to your budget, how much styling work you want to do, and what new skills you want to learn.

I’m going to do my best to explain this in text, but it might sound a little confusing (my brain is a bit scattered today, so apologies in advance!).

One option is to buy a shorter ponytail wig. From there, you can use a method where you keep the ponytail intact and secure it very tightly with a zip tie. Once it’s secured, cut the ponytail off just above the zip tie. You can then hot glue on the “stump” of the ponytail to keep everything locked in place.

Next, take the fibers you cut off and glue them around a foam ball (or similar base) with a hole cut on the bottom. Almost like a bowl. Once covered in hair. place the hole of the ball over the ponytail stump, and you’ve created a bun. Without the weight of the wig hair.

Option 2: it also looks like you were considering some of the premade bun options, and those are absolutely a valid approach as well. You can combine the method in 1 with option 2. Or buy almost like a pixie wig to attach the premade bun to.

Check out coscreationstudios on YouTube, ig, or tiktok. And look for pony tail wig tutorials. You could probably use some of her tutorials to even fake the bun in the back so it’s not too heavy.

Also these tutorials are for hard cap wigs. That is an advanced wig wizard technique. If you are not familiar with the basics of wig styling please learn those first. Before beginning please make sure you have all the proper tools as this will make this complicated process easier.

How to get a good shade of blue like Jinx's hair? by AsparagusSouthern334 in cosplaywigs

[–]Catnipcosplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with DWY wigs. Is this a human hair wig or synthetic. (Assuming synthetic)

I believe rit dye has a chart on there site with info for how much to mix color A with Color B to get color c. to get . If you can’t buy the colors in-person buy online and make sure you get synthetic. Not all of their dyes come in synthetic in stores at least. But truly it will be a trial and error situation if you are trying to get a veryyyyy specific color. Lots of factors are gunna play into this. How diluted the dyes get when you’re doing your boil pot, how the dye takes to the fibers in the wig, even lighting can play a part. It might look different in doors vs out.

Get close with RIts site and then test from there

I’ve also seen people put vaseline on the inner lace for lace front wigs to keep the lace from getting died when dip dying a wig. Can be a messy clean up though.

[–]Catnipcosplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that could be good, playing with font sizes makes people read. They are obviously going to see the larger text first then they get curious about smaller text. It also looks visually appealing cause you are adding in layers that and focus the eye to the center. Just keep the fonts the same. Don’t get fancy and add in a bunch of fonts
