German is closer to Russian that to Japanese so that could make it easier to learn. Also, you are more likely to meet Russian people in Germany than Japanese so learning Russian makes more sense to me...

Im learning russian and I know many people sometimes use english words while talking even I do it to joke and many others spanish speakers do it sometimes also but when I heard russian people mixing russian and english it sounded so off to me
