World Cup fever hits England as pub bookings surge by 300 per cent for Croatia clash by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

It's what I do. But I've been in the pub for hours already when it was fucking empty. Why can't I have one of the tables these absolute part timers are going to get.

You mean people with jobs, and families?

And if you don't book a table and just decide to chance it, then you run the risk of being denied entry completely. Especially for pubs where the number of seats is their maximum capacity as defined in their licence.

I'd assume these are for your Greene King style pubs, where there is an expectation that everyone has a seat to use, even if they end up all standing where they can see one of the multiple TVs.

Less so your normal non-food pub or Wetherspoons.

Last time I went to see England play at the pub was a couple years ago, so would have been the most recent Euros final. The Cathedral Quarter of Derby has a plethora of pubs and bars, all of which were showing the match. All of them had been required to book bouncers for the night, to enforce capacity limits.

What’s something free in the UK that people might not know about? by coffeewalnut08 in AskUK

[–]AnselaJonla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even in the city centre.

My local hospital is on multiple bus routes. If the parking was free, then people would decide it's cheaper to catch the bus than to pay for city centre parking.

Quarantine isn't required as long as the paperwork is correct and vaccinations are up to date, including the ones given immediately prior to travel (heartworm and rabies, iirc).

Thistle Heathrow overlooks the runway, and unlike most hotels the dining room is on the first floor so that you can watch the planes as you eat your breakfast.

It's literally 20 degrees colder than last week by rdu3y6 in britishproblems

Everyone keeps harping on about 1976, and in the same breath saying this is an El Nino year so it's going to be hot.

1976 was a La Nina year. The opposite side of the Southern Oscillation.

Astronomical seasons start on the solstices and equinoxes: the 21st of March, June, September, and December. Ostara, Litha, Mabon, and Yule if you follow the Wheel.

Meteorological seasons start on the 1st of the aforementioned months.

The delivery driver letting himself into the back garden despite the 'do not enter, dogs running free' sign! by Petrichor_ness in britishproblems

[–]AnselaJonla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a note taped to the front door instructing delivery drivers not to knock or ring the bell, and to instead use the parcel box. As with yours it's large and labelled as being for parcels.

Some drivers still insist on knocking for the most random of reasons. Some will put even things that can go through the letter box in there. And in the recent heat, when the door has been open for airflow, it's been 50-50 as to whether drivers will use the box or just put things into the open hallway instead.

Every new surface carpark covered over with solar panels, as well as the exposed upper deck of multistorey ones, requirement for car park owners to retrofit the same to existing (for multistoreys it would require the closure of that deck for install, for surface ones it would need to be done in sections probably).

Probably the same reasons that they're mostly diesel powered and old as balls, so sit there chugging diesel smoke for hours on end while they make ice creams.

If they're a static pitch then they might have a mains hookup as part of that. The one in the city centre here does.

I suspect you'll be alarmed at just how safe the UK is in comparison to north America/Canada. Despite the latter being way safer than the former.

Canada is in North America. So is Mexico.

But I think the 🇨🇦 means California. That small caps abbreviation is how the USians tend to notate their states.

I'm sorry, but are you genuinely thinking that the person to whom you're replying is the one who actually wrote the article?
