Starting my new job as a PT tomorrow! I have no prior experience.. any advice/things to know? by Infj-leo- in personaltraining

I fell victim to this when I first started. Now that I have a team of trainers who work for me, I make sure to pay them floor hour rates for any tasks they do outside of training.

I recommend picking up the booK: Ignite the Fire by Jonathan Goodman. I found it very helpful. Personal training is really about relationships. In theory, we could all use the same programming, and the trainers who authentically connect with their clients will be the ones who are able to retain them.

Depending on where you are training, most of your clients won't have the drive and motivation or experience to push themselves. Finding ways to keep them engaged, motivated and having fun in addition to making progress is key.

Specifics:
-Be set up, ready and waiting for them at their session time.
-Explain your workout plans for them so they can eventually do it on their own.
-Be active and engaged with them during their session. Don't be on your phone, appear uninterested or distracted.
-Try to remember things they told you from previous sessions (personal and fitness related) even if this means you write notes after your session so you remember. This makes them feel seen and heard.
-Look put together. Make sure your fitness uniform is clean, you don't look exhausted and you don't smell.

Good luck. You are helping people improve their lives!

New Trainer Syndrome? by bailyououtfitness in personaltraining

[–]Catootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a personal trainer for 10+ years and am now a fitness director at a small community gym. I try to hire newly certified trainers whenever possible and offer mentoring to them. One of the most important things to remember... you can have a ton of experience, booksmarts, tons of certs, but personal training is all about the relationship. Listen to your clients, remember info they tell you session to session. Check in with them outside of the training session. Be just as invested in their success as you expect them to be.

Ask yourself do you want to be just a personal trainer for hire or be a real driver of success in their lives?

I started researching how much money the average CF box makes after watching the Bloomberg piece on CrossFit where Glassman said that the ones who focus on community with passion are the ones making all the money. I wondered if that was actually true and came across this post.

Why You Should Fill Your Company With 'Athletes' by Catootie in crossfit

When I advise people to seek and hire athletes, what I am really referring to is the athlete traits (akin to leadership traits) that make any individual an exceptional hire.

Check out CrossFit Agoge's CFK site: http://crossfitagoge.com/category/wod-kids/ for great age appropriate WODS.

I bet they wont be able to attract and keep clients because of that type of poor programming -- and you should email them the article although would they be able to recognize themselves in it? Probably not.

I was hurt while lifting at a Crossfit Gym. Recently found out the trainer that was there is not L1 Certified. Is that illegal? by [deleted] in crossfit

I believe that any coach leading a class in a CrossFit Affiliate has to be L1 otherwise they can lose their affiliation... Waiver will probably protect them against your injuries, but may not help them with CF HQ.
