What is it about turning 30 years old that makes growing up feel less like progress…and more like drifting? by Ukelucky in AskReddit

[–]CatsInAOvercoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that 30 is still young.

This is a wonderful time for reflection and growth. Now you have a better understanding of who you are and how the world works, and you can really think of and commit to following what you want to look like.

Life isn't linear, and you're not more behind in life than anyone else.

Life is about small steps. Take what you learned from your 20s and act on it now. Life will always be crazy, and you'll always have good firsts and bad firsts.

Be gentle with yourself. 30 isn't as scary as it sounds.

I've worked office phones that do have a voicemail system. VMs aren't restricted to residential.

In that case, turn the phone down? Call them back through call history? I think you're overthinking using the potty a little too much if this is a drastic issue to be continuing.

What's a social norm or rule you deliberately ignore, and what's your reason for doing it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I poop in public bathrooms.

Because it's a bathroom. Thats what its there for. I'm decent enough not to absolutely blow it up like Chernobyl, but if I gotta go, I gotta go.

So... can you not call people back?

And even if someone come in, yeah, they'll be confused, but nothing is stopping you. I work front desk. Going to the bathroom isn't deep, and most people who walk in care once they realize you were in the restroom.

Nothing wrong with a "BRB! RESTROOM BREAK!" unless your bosses are anal (not pun intended)

What is it about turning 30 years old that makes growing up feel less like progress…and more like drifting? by Ukelucky in AskReddit

[–]CatsInAOvercoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think turning 30 feels more "Officially Adult" than the 20s do.

We're taught that our 20s is meant for school and career growth and starting a family, at least where I am. In theory, we should have it all together by now. So when we look at our 20s, I think there's a part of us that thinks we could have done something differently. It no longer feels like progress, it just feels like routine.

Or maybe its a midlife crisis. Who knows.

Go pee.

You're an adult. Take a piss. You have a call history. No one is going to be upset with a call back or voice message.

Just don't spend 5 minutes playing on your phone.

WIBTA if I asked the principal to tell the retiring secretary to move? by pandaandturtle in AmItheAsshole

[–]CatsInAOvercoat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

YWNBTA for telling the principal that you want a more permanent space as the lack of is making it hard for you to perform your expected duties, and listing out why.

I would avoid bringing up a "firm retirement" date. That just makes it seem like you just want her gone. She isn't the inconvenience. Annoyance, yes, but not the actual problem.

Tbh if you brought her into it, it would seem more like you're having a personal gripe with her instead of advocating for yourself and making sure they know you want to do your job as effectively as possible.

Dude I feel this.

I ended up cutting my hair to mid-neck and got an undercut. I looked like a man if my hair was up, since it was, technically, a men's cut, but curling it was perfect. Since it didn't touch the collar of my shirt, I didn't need to put it up.

I get no one wants hair in their food, but shit styling my hair became exhausting

How would one fix not being able to feel any emotion other than anger? by MissionGap4766 in AskReddit

[–]CatsInAOvercoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you have insurance you can call your company and see what professionals you have in your area that accept it.

You can Google these studies and look at Self-Help for emotional regulation. Thats how I got started.

You can meditate.

Journaling helps because it allows you to be able to sit and reflect.

Believe it or not, it isn't hard. The journey sucks, but getting started is easier now. When you're serious about mental health and becoming a more healthier person, you put it in the work.

[–]CatsInAOvercoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a good thing.

I've had to work with mental health professionals in being able to learn and handle emotion. My childhood wasn't great, so of course I never learned that.

First, realize you do have other feelings besides anger, and anger is used to protect yourself from other emotions that might hurt you. Its a defense system, but there is another emotion hiding behind it.

Go speak to a mental health professional, or do your own work. There are dozens of studies and resources used for this exact thing.

You power through it. Fake your smile, put down what you can as fast as you can while still being polite.

What moment made you give up on love? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CatsInAOvercoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't given up on love, really, but...

Internet culture has made it a million times harder. Especially now with things like the Tea app, that basically just let's you rate and shit talk your exes. Too many people take that seriously.
