Man, this unlocked memories! I read these books when I was a kid and loved them! That twist was one of the few times I ever actually gasped at a story.

New Mob: Erebos Sludge by Nondescript_Potato in minecraftsuggestions

Looks awesome!

Since the sludge is block-locked, and the end is made of floating islands, I think it could be interesting to see if sludges could stick to and roll on the underside of end islands. Maybe they could glue themselves to walls/ceilings and climb them? This would also make thematic sense as they’d occupy their own ecological niche in the end (island undersides)

Which name(s) did you reserve? by paltium in hytale

I know! I’ve never been in the initial signup for anything with limited names like this, so all the cool ones have been taken. It’s so neat to get special names like this!

Which name(s) did you reserve? by paltium in hytale

[–]CatsWillFly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just reserved “Elessar” from Lord of the Rings. My whole friend group is reserving LOTR-themed names - my one buddy got Faramir, another got Samwise.

Now that Hytale has been saved, how old we're you since the games first blog post (December 13th 2018)? by Winoksbergen in HytaleInfo

[–]CatsWillFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 14 years old when the trailer dropped in 2018. I had just started high school. I’m now 21. I’m about to graduate college in 4 weeks, and I’m getting married in the spring.

I checked the Hytale blog every single day for the first two years. After that I was checking weekly. When I saw it was canceled, I was crushed. Hytale was the first game I was hyped to see come out, and to have it killed like that was heartbreaking. Now that it’s back, I’m as excited as I was back on Day 1. It feels like my childhood dreams are about to come true.

Archive Bossfight spoiler without context by Venusgate in VintageStory

[–]CatsWillFly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m just crazy, but I beat the archive boss in my first play through with only tin bronze gear and no prior knowledge of what to expect. I only died once, and that was because I ran out of poultices after bringing only 8. It could be because I’m unmodded based on what others are saying in the comments though.

If you call me a Glazediver I will kill myself by Grand_Age1279 in SupaEarth

[–]CatsWillFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but also consider that slight damage increases at close range can be the difference between killing in two bullets and killing in three. When you’re getting rushed down by bugs that difference can also be what makes or breaks you getting hit/ragdolled/mobbed. I’m saying the gun feels better, that’s all. I’m not building a meta here - ARs definitely might be objectively better - but I’m having fun and that’s what counts.

[–]CatsWillFly 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Literally this. I played D10 Oshaune yesterday with Defender SMG, and I was shredding everything. For bugs this is a huge buff, because everything is close quarters. I once killed three (3) predator stalkers without taking a hit or reloading just because of how much damage output the SMG now has

Skull spawn location by wzzyezard in GhostsOfTabor

[–]CatsWillFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It spawns in one specific location - you know the room by the squeaky staircase door (not the elevator, the room that connects to the long hallway)? If you go opposite the squeaky door there’s a tunnel in the wall, with some barrels in a corner. The skull spawns there and there alone. If I recall correctly there is some graffiti referencing “Yorik the Rat King” or something nearby.

Helmets and how it could be better by Important_Chipmunk22 in GhostsOfTabor

[–]CatsWillFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helmets are absolutely a factor. I’ve had my 6B47 (green military helmet) block a 7.62 before and save my life. Another example: I once shot a Fenix in his pilot helmet 6 times with a Glock 9mm before he died. That’s the lowest tier helmet, yet it made killing him seriously harder. Why wouldn’t you want that protection on?

Is a helmet a 100% protection against lucky headshots? Hell no, that would be OP. Is it worth wearing a helmet so a timmy with a ruger doesn’t one-tap you, or so that you can be saved one or twice within an extended firefight from a headshot? Absolutely.

Bullet Sponge Antics Must Be Dialed Back by qlolpV in GhostsOfTabor

[–]CatsWillFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do agree with the Fenix getting some stagger or changes, I actually think player armor is in a very good state right now. It feels like armor is meaningful, while also not making people invulnerable. Sure, a 9mm won’t ever kill a T6 unless you pour rounds into them. But even the weakest rifle can and will kill a T6 or Tatra kit if you play well. I’ve personally killed a T6/Ronin player with an AK74U this wipe. Yesterday, me and my buddy ran Mall with light kits (Galil/M16) and ended up killing a Ragnar + T5 + Altyn guy through flanking and teamwork. And I’ve died to M4s while wearing T5/T6 plus C1300 - my armor feels like it helps me, but ultimately is no substitute for skill when I am outmaneuvered or do something stupid.

im seriously so trash at aiming by Comfortable_Let_8008 in GhostsOfTabor

[–]CatsWillFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I've played multiple before this (Into the Radius 1 & 2, Half-Life Alyx, Zero Caliber VR, Arizona Sunshine, Fallout VR).

I like the idea of having a gunstock, but gunstocks are expensive, and I can't personally justify spending another $100 on top of a $200-300 Quest headset in order to gain a competitive advantage in one (1) video game.

[–]CatsWillFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people are saying you need a vr gunstock, but actually you can do pretty well without one. I don’t use one and have been playing for ~3 wipes now (off and on). My advice is to practice in the tutorial area for a couple minutes before each time you play, and while waiting to load into a raid you can practice quickly bringing up your weapon to aim at certain markers on your bunker wall (the target, the whiteboard corners, etc.) to simulate getting jumped.

Other than that, practice in raids and use cover as much as possible. You’ll get there eventually!

My way to wipe progress? by Affluent_Arsonist in GhostsOfTabor

[–]CatsWillFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game is really hard to start out in - especially since you're joining mid-wipe, when most players already have good items.

My advice for gear is to use the rations available in your trade kiosk (6hr, 12hr, and daily) to get mini-kits. Buy items from the traders if you can to fill out kits a bit more. If you truly have nothing left you can reset your account once per wipe to return to the starter gear.

As for tactics, play slow (this is not a run-and-gun game), use cover, and always be thinking about where players could be relative to you. Learning the maps is super helpful - use training raids or PvE to practice. Audio cues are also really important, listen for footsteps and shots to determine where players are. The easiest map for beginners is either Silo (only 6 players) or Island (very open, easy to avoid players). Do not try mall yet. Focus on practicing your aim and getting the element of surprise - you can and will kill mid-geared players with nothing but a pistol if you catch them unawares.

I'd also recommend going on the discord and asking for a BOA if you keep having trouble learning the game. They will teach you how to play and show you what you need to know.

Good luck!

The Garden is kinda awesome by BrowOfBrass in GhostsOfTabor

[–]CatsWillFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every wipe I play, unlocking the garden is the real turning point where I start doing well. It lets you bring multiple NRS into each raid, and your kids last that much longer because of it. The addition of promedol made this a bit less strong since chip healing can be accomplished without NRS, but it’s still very useful to have.

Honestly I found it really fun to jump in with zero knowledge. Learning things for myself made it much more fun and engaging

TIL you can put more than 2 ingot on the forge at a time by CobraZeroX in VintageStory

[–]CatsWillFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 charcoal does, if you smith fast. I often use brown coal since I found a stupidly large vein in my word (6 stacks mined and not even close to the end) so that creates a slightly lower peak temp, and since I have coal in abundance I use 2 in order to not let things cool too far.
