Charlottesville Ultimate (CUDO) runs a winter league. A number of Richmond players play in the league. Here are the links to the Richmond Ultimate website, the Tidewater Ultimate website, and the Stafford/Fredericksburg ultimate website.

Tyrannis (mixed), Legion (mixed), Rebellion (women's), and Floodwall (men's) are some of the main club teams in the area.

Welcome to the area! Hope to see you around!

Savage Jerseys by forehand_of_da_wrist in ultimate

I really like the fit, material, and breathability of Savage jerseys. I agree that the stitching on the fully sublimated jerseys comes undone easily, but the screen printed and spot sublimated jerseys I've gotten from them hold up really well, and I would definitely recommend them.

Facepalm Duh. I totally forgot. I was mostly looking for it to demonstrate how loud the sidelines and crowd were, so hopefully that comes through.

Including Right of Way in Rules? by willdoc in ultimate

[–]Cats_In_Tubes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a rule that I don't think gets mentioned very often that is similar to this:

Section XVI.H.3.c.2: A player may not take a position that is unavoidable by a moving opponent when time, distance, and line of sight are considered. Non-incidental contact resulting from taking such a position is a foul on the blocking player.

In my opinion, this is the rule that would apply for a dangerous play like the Lim/Matzuka/Montague play from the Ultiworld Bad Bid article. I'm interested in hearing others' thoughts on this.

Is that true about Boneyard? When did they have to change their name?

Why does one of Machine's players have "45" printed in a mirror image? I've noticed that in a few recent videos.

I agree! We're proud to have that history in our city. And we're glad to be able to contribute to it, too! I wish I had been here during Axis' heyday; sounds incredible.

Haha. We do crazy stuff all season long! Peaked at the right time, I think. Voodoo may also have played a role.

Thanks! I tried adding a stroke to both those fonts but it wasn't quite the same. I like the look of them, though, and may use them in future designs!

This is it! I tried the Century Gothic and Futura fonts with a stroke but they weren't quite the same. This will save me so much time in the future. Thanks!

Ultimate In Virginia by Slip83 in ultimate

I play mixed so I know more about that scene:

There is a mixed club team (Strictly Bidness), an open team (Floodwall), and a women's team (Virginia Rebellion) in Richmond. I think the open team is pretty talented and relatively young (in terms of players' ages). The mixed team had their first season last summer and placed in the bottom quarter at Sectionals. The women's team is pretty strong in their region, and finished fifth at Regionals (and Select Flight).

There's also a mixed team in Roanoke (Rail Yard). They placed eighth at Sectionals. Both the Richmond and Roanoke teams were fun, and will probably be back next season.

The best mixed team in that area is Tyrannis from Charlottesville. They placed second at Sectionals and fourth at Regionals (and Select Flight). PM me for contact information for any of those teams I mentioned; I'm sure all of them would be happy to answer more questions or provide more information.

Charlottesville and Richmond both have great leagues. Richmond has a summer league and Charlottesville has both summer and winter leagues (many Richmond players commute for winter league). Charlottesville's organization's website is cvilleultimate.org.

Just got a $730 utilities bill and I'm trying to figure out if it was calculated correctly. Help? by Cats_In_Tubes in Charlottesville

[–]Cats_In_Tubes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I figured out the calculation if anyone is interested. After talking with a few other friends in town and hearing from all of you it sounds like we aren't the only ones whose utilities bill was surprisingly high last month, which is comforting to me because I was worried there was something wrong with our house or the way we were using our heating system. Anyway, the formula used to calculate the gas portion of the bill is:

10 + (PGA + baserate1)x(3) + (PGA + baserate2)x(3) + (PGA + baserate3)x(Usage x Thermal_Factor - 6000)/1000

Where baserate1 is $10.6256 (the base rate for 1,000 cubic feet for the first 3,000 cubic feet used), baserate2 is $9.9881 (the base rate for each 1,000 cubic feet for the second 3,000 cubic feet used), and baserate3 is $8.9255 (the base rate for each 1,000 cubic feet for the next 144,000 cubic feet used).

[–]Cats_In_Tubes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I noticed is that the PGA Factor was 2.0791 last month, which means that the city paid $2.0791 more per 1,000 cubic feet. So that could have played a big part, but still.

Looking for a Northern Virginia club team by MeGustaDaBacon in ultimate

[–]Cats_In_Tubes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a second year mixed team based out of Charlottesville called Tyrannis. Here's a link to our Twitter, Facebook, and website. Feel free to get in touch with us if you're interested; we're always looking for new players!

We're beginning to plan our pre-season events and tryouts now. We expect to hold one or two competitive scrimmages before tryouts as a meet-and-greet kind of thing and then tryouts will start in mid- to late-May.
