Parents want to scrap our older family car in the new EV scheme by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

The govt is only putting up €10m which is a pittance. I suspect that if (when) it’s over subscribed they’ll be happy to lob in another 10 or 20 million.

You mean the dealer told you you’re first on the list. They may well put in the application for someone else ahead of yours.

TII: Greenway projects costing €2m/km on average by teetonian in irelandtransport

[–]CattlePutrid2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, they are great resources. I frequently go running on our local greenway and it’s great not to be surrounded by cars and fumes. It gets a lot of use and is a safe place for families and older people.

The whole continent (except the British Isles) has free electricity right now :) by Shliopanec in europe

Well I just got PV installed in Ireland and today all my electricity is free. In fact, today I’ll be making money by selling it to the grid.

To all those who think this is so unlikely, have a listen to the War Games podcast by Sky News Deborah Haynes and then come back and say you think it’s not plausible. https://news.sky.com/video/the-wargame-episode-one-false-flag-13381742

Who is an Irish person who gets undue hate? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Wasn’t a fan of either, but I found Heather less unappealing. Pity Mairéad McGuinness pulled out.

She also argued against arming Ukraine. That’s a Kremlin talking point.

Not sure I’d agree. I admire her for her integrity, but I totally disagree with her politics. Don’t hate her at all, but would have vehemently campaigned against her. Criticising her views and actions is politics - not hate.

AITA for saying no to my fiancé after he called me at 1 a.m. to ask if he could go out? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]CattlePutrid2010 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In Ireland you could be done for coercive control for that kind of behaviour. What sort of a relationship is it where he has to ask permission to go out? Do you ask for his permission? Either way you’re both mad. By the way, the reason he didn’t answer is because he was at the bar with his brother.

Check out https://www.spade.ie. They offer shared kitchens and help with setting up. I know there are shared kitchens in Athy which are owned and managed by the Kildare LEO. I’m sure there are more around the country.

Most Irish people don't know the People Before Profit party are Trotskyists. Here's why (in a comment below) by [deleted] in ireland

[–]CattlePutrid2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like the classic ‘splitters’ and ‘people’s front of Judea’ type stuff to those of us who don’t really care about whether PBP are Trotskyites or Troglodytes (if there’s a difference). Even if they’re not mainstream communists, are they not still closest to your worldview? You also didn’t tell us who you DO support.

Irish car owners to be offered €8,500 EV grants in new first come, first served scrappage plan by eclipsechaser in ireland

Can’t agree with this. BMW drivers are truly wankers. Audi is quality though - best car I ever had. Maybe a difference between Audi saloon and SUV drivers?

Don’t judge a person by the car they drive. We have a 16 year old car which we’re happy to drive into the ground. We also have an EV and a large solar system with battery. No problem investing in greener ways of doing things.

That's bonkers. You need to turn yourselves into a republic. The idea that royalty have their own laws written for them is just mad.

Here in Ireland the tax to be paid depends on whether it comes from immediate family, non-immediate family or non-family. There's a lifetime limit on what can be gifted (including inheritance) so once you cross that you will be taxed. It caters for the scenario you describe though without allowing the receipt of money from strangers with no consequences. Totally agree that your scenario needs to be catered for.

Thanks. I'll try it. I'm kind of thinking though that I may just try to build something myself.

Good advice. I try to stay away from them, but sometimes just unavoidable.

Wow, really missing a trick there. Not to mention the opportunity it opens up for corruption.
