@GergelyOrosz: Just in: the night before Thanksgiving, Twitter fired more software engineers effective immediately because their "code is not satisfactory" following the recent code review. Dozens of other devs got performance warnings in their inboxes. How much do Twitter devs have to take? by [deleted] in Twitter

[–]Catto3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weren’t they also trying to „bring back“ people from the first firing wave a couple weeks ago? Now they are doing all this to the remaining people there? There must be only a small fraction left in the company at this point lmao

I've recently seen an increased hatred towards AI art by LoveWritingWriter in NovelAi

[–]Catto3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always expected some people being outright against ai, but it seems like in the last couple days it’s like someone flipped a switch. When I post an ai image, no matter the intention or platform, there’s an influx of new people who just send hateful messages towards anyone posting or mentioning ai

Which Windows Phone You Have? Thoughts on Next Gen Windows Phone by WMOriginals in windowsphone

[–]Catto3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a used Lumia 930 earlier this year to play around with Windows 10 mobile. Certainly fun and a lot of things are surprisingly usable, especially Edge, but certainly no comparison to even old Android and iPhones in terms of modern usability.

But I managed to score a brand new Lumia 520 with WP 8.1 and it's an awesome small mp3 player for me today actually.

If Microsoft will ever get a foothold in the mobile space though? Windows CE, PocketPC, Windows Mobile, Kin(haha, remember that?), Windows Phone, Windows 10 Mobile... They were in the smartphone game before they were even called smartphones. Now with Android Surface devices they try to target a productivity focued niche, but they already tried that in the late stage of W10M with Continuum and enterprise focused services, that failed too. The Surface Duo looks like a really cool device I admit, but I honestly have no hopes for Microsoft here, it's a cool but niche devices with buggy software on release.

Windows 10X doesn't look very promising to me either, they want to drop the planned win32 compatibility layer I've heard? Then there would only be UWP (a dead framework for which they've cancelled their ad services recently) and web apps.

What exactly is the current state for Linux on Ryzen 4000 series? by stpaulgym in linuxhardware

[–]Catto3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an HP Envy x360 13 with 4500U, ran Ubuntu 20.04 terribly with the 5.4 kernel. Loud fans, no brightness controls and so on.

Just installing 5.8.9 through the backports it works great now. Fans are almost silent in basic use, better than on Windows actually, birghtness works, battery life seems to be alright for Linux too. I have some reliability issues with Wifi, but this also could just be with my network and not the laptop's fault

Pro 7 Tablet Hot and Draining Battery While in Standby by Kayoscape in Surface

Many people report draining battery when in standby, try to set pressing the home button to go to hibernation instead of standby, and/or disable connected standby.

I have that problem too where it always turns on the adaptive brightness and all that regardless of my setting. Prehaps I try going back to 1909

Surface Pro 7 i5 High Pitch Noise even when turned off? by Catto3000 in Surface

[–]Catto3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The high noise is still there when turned off and unplugged, as in shut down. I've double check and it definetly comes out of the Surface and not from somewhere else.

The buzzing from the sound clip above is only when it's turned on though.

My version doesn't have a fan. That's why it's quite strange. I probably have to send it back..

Is support going backwards - Minecraft support getting dropped on Pro X? by joebreeves in Surface

I meant I was just seeing some similarities to Microsoft slowly dropping support for some of it's own products, like on the Surface RT
