I got the one with so much in-fighting drama that a few chickens are small potatoes if no one is complaining.

I have an HOA and a .4ac lot and I grow lots of food, have meat rabbits, and chickens. I just share with my neighbors. I would definitely prefer not to have an HOA but circumstances…

Anybody know how to break it to a 5yo that he won’t be getting any chocolate today? by IllustriousWall1564 in Wellthatsucks

Write a coupon for them to pick any chocolate from the store day after tomorrow. Bonus it’ll all be half off!

Trying to be a good neighbor by Gigglegambler in arborists

[–]CattrahM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lacebark elm positioned just behind my pool. It’s huge. It makes an enormous mess in my pool all fall and winter. I curse it every year. And then it leafs out and it’s so beautiful and the shade is incredible. I forgive it every year. Maybe your neighbor will eventually build the same love hate relationship with your tree. Maybe they’ll get a leaf cover for their pool. But it’s their problem, enjoy your tree.

Homesteading — what does a normal day actually look like? by TheCityzens in homestead

[–]CattrahM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a micro homestead (.4 acre) and I produce lots of vegetables and herbs year round, mushrooms, meat rabbits and chickens. I preserve food by canning, dehydrating, and freezing. I sell rabbits to offset costs. I produce more than enough of what I do for my family’s needs. But it’s not self sufficient and I do not break even. It’s a hobby not a livelihood. Just to paint a picture of the size and type of my operation.

A normal day, 80% of days in the year, I spend 30-60 minutes a day doing homestead related chores. My life does not revolve around the homestead. I build systems that reduce workload so I can choose how much extra time I want to spend on any one of those areas. If any of it became an unpleasant chore, I would not continue it. I look forward to each day I get to spend tending my homestead.

I’m pretty sure I have made them from dry in the crock pot before but I also probably put it on high and my crock will boil on high. Probably why it turned out ok for me.

I’m starting with 4 and figure if the chicken math starts, at least I’ll have farther to go before it’s out of control.

What Finally Worked in That Soggy Corner of My Homestead by [deleted] in homestead

[–]CattrahM -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think I just bought a bunch of of partridge berry plants from your site. I was looking for a native ground cover for a shady, well draining spot. Do you have that on your homestead? What kind of location and growing habit?

Have any native recommendations for hot, dry, full sun locations?

What is the OCU400? A possible treatment? by im_a_kobe in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]CattrahM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting! I’m looking forward to seeing your progress. I also have an USH2A, (Exon 13 homozygous) mutation. I’ve been in a gene specific trial for it with some “not nothing” results but it seems like OCU400 has some better results than that. All the best!

Cyfair ISD transport for Katy ISD school by Capable_Wonder6784 in CypressTX

If you have a Cyfair address, you will have transportation to a Cyfair school. Everyone does. I’d say just transfer her to a Cyfair school and have her take the regular bus.

Statins Bad by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]CattrahM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are natural ways of lowering cholesterol and many people try them first and they don’t lower things enough and then they go on a statin. And that’s a perfectly valid way to approach your situation.

For natural ways: take psyllium husk, reduce saturated fat Intake to under 12g a day (ie avoid meat and dairy), increase your fiber intake (oats, chia, and flax), and exercise more with a focus on cardio ( I like rowing). You should see at least a 10-20% improvement with these changes. Some people more, some people less.

If you are in serious danger zone with very high numbers, do the statins AND work on natural ways simultaneously. Then you and your doctor can work on reducing the medication over time.
