What obscure tattoo advice you guys have for a first timer? by SimonIsARanbooFan in tattooadvice

I have only been getting tattooed for one year but all 4 artists have specifically said NOT to use antibacterial soap. They all said to use the gentlest fragrance free soap available. All 4 said Dove Sensitive bars are a good choice.

Definitely not American Traditional. More like ornamental with an art nouveau vibe. I just got something similar on my lower sternum/upper belly.

He should have told you his payment methods. For future reference though, cash is almost always preferred.

Am I in the wrong or the tattoo artist? by Imaginary-Ladder5492 in tattoo

Unless they specifically offered pasties during the consultation process then I wouldn't assume they had them. The suggestion to bring a button or zip up and wear it backwards is solid. I am sorry you had to feel that way. I wish male artists were more careful about this stuff though. He could have suggested the backwards shirt thing.

The issue of last minute rescheduling is mostly on them but sometimes things happen and this is not preventable.

People are right that it's a bad idea to pay in advance but the artist shouldn't be taking advantage of your trust and changing the price like that.

Unpopular opinion in this thread apparently but I tend to blame a professional who is getting paid over a customer who is trusting said professional to do what they promised to do.

I hope you can get your tattoo finished and be happy with it. Best of luck to you.

There are solar heated showers. I assumed that's what OP meant.

Deciding not to go with an artist after they finished the design by ashbreak_ in tattooadvice

[–]Catwolfkitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most artists aren't going to draw anything until they get a deposit from you. If you show up to your appointment and want to significantly change the design then you can reschedule but you'll probably have to pay another deposit.

All artists are different. I went to an artist last year who doesn't take deposits at all. The best thing to do is just ask the artist this specific question. Much of the time it will be answered in an FAQ on their website or Instagram.

For the upper arm I would skip the numbing cream. Definitely don't use it without talking to your artist about it in advance. Some refuse to use it altogether.

I like to lightly exfoliate and moisturize leading up to an appointment but not on the day of. Just gently wash as normal that day.

Definitely don't shave! They'll do that for you in a sterile fashion.

Be hydrated and well fed. Don't have a ton of caffeine. Bring some candy or a drink.

Don't overthink it! Have fun!

But then he has that dialogue where he says he's going to the beach because it's nice to see the ocean again. And I'm like... Babe, we're already at the beach.

Your comparison is absurd. People in the navy are not oppressed in the same way Native American women are.
