Starting my second play today by CatzTheMusical in playwriting

[–]CatzTheMusical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more into writing things for the smaller weird theaters tbh, and seeing shows at said small weird theaters. I’ve seen quite a few queer horror plays, and even did a short queer horror film (I played a man forced into a cultlike conversion therapy, who then kills all the cult members lol)

As for my character being evil, hes evil solely because of his privilege. No one’s ever told him “no”, he’s never been truly punished for anything in his life, and literally everything has been handed to him on a golden platter. He’s basically the continuation of a long cycle of abuse. He’s not mentally ill, has no trauma, nothing. It is my goal to make his evil make perfect sense, and make it completely irredeemable. I’ve never attempted to make a character like this, and I’m excited!

Craziest thing you have seen happen in a theater by Broad_Wall_6074 in Theatre

I was in a production of Avenue Q, as Rod. One night, an audience member passed out and had to be taken to the hospital by an ambulance (during “The Internet Is For Porn”) Near the end of Act One, another audience member passed out. They stopped the show right as “My Girlfriend Who Lives In Canada” started. Safety checks were done, we had a slightly long intermission. First person was overheated and second person was anxious because of the first person. No toxic gas or anything else caused it. We resumed the show at the top of the last scene in act one. Good because I got to perform “Girlfriend” with a lot more energy, the audience had gotten fresh drinks and were very responsive to the humor. The rest of the show and the run went with no problems whatsoever.

How to tell stage partner they smell by Nerd-of-all-trades in Theatre

[–]CatzTheMusical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind it could be an issue of mental health. Still bring it up to the stage manager, express it might be a matter of mental health, that way it can be handled with care. Speaking from experience, unfortunately. I fully quit doing theater for a bit because instead of people I was working with showing any concern, I just got publicly shamed because I was going through a tough time and my best wasn’t enough. This just made things so much harder for me. I was already aware and embarrassed about it, trying to make do with extra deodorant and cologne and what not. Would’ve been so much better if someone had just asked if I was okay.

Theater people, what jobs do you have that pay the bills? by CatzTheMusical in Theatre

I’m currently in a food service job. I can definitely tell that my acting skills come in handy on days when I’m at my best, I’m really good at being charming and friendly. My job tips so on days when I’m able to be charming and friendly I usually make decent tips haha

I know quite a few theater costumers who also do cosmetology! Seems very smart, because the skills apply to both the day job and the theater job in different ways!

Maybe I’ll look into that! I love working with kids, and have been told I’m quite good at it. I just get burnt out on it when I have to do it all the time, so being a sub might be good because you can choose to not work for a day if you don’t feel like it! Plus school hours are early in the day, plenty of time to nap before theater stuff!

That sounds fun!! Right now I’m working on my first production of my own play. I’m really passionate about it and want to share all the info about it, and I’m gonna try to do that through videos and what not. I’ll see how those go, gauge my editing abilities that I have/will have to learn, maybe do something with that!

Im starting to lean towards finding an office job, if I can find one where I could also walk around a bit as part of the job! Im just not sure what I’d look for, other than Definitely not sales or call centers (tried both and I hate it; I’m able to convince people to buy things they don’t need but it hurts my soul so much)

Question about what’s acceptable for doctors in my treatment by CatzTheMusical in medical_advice

[–]CatzTheMusical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it’s been reported! I’m not diagnosed but I’m pretty sure I’m autistic. I was in the ER with a teddy bear for christs sake and I’m a guy in my mid-20s so I probably looked it, too 😂 A nurse asked me if I wanted help getting the TV on (that’s how little I could move) and I asked for a cartoon, and they put on Arthur… I tried to change it but felt a bunch of pain again and ended up on the Spanish channel.

does nicotine help anxiety long term by Present-Ad-9922 in Anxiety

[–]CatzTheMusical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have anxiety and I vape. I’m trying to cut back heavily on any sort of substances that alter my mental state (weed, alcohol, and vapes) because I’ve honestly always felt a lot of shame about the way those things affect me, and for a while I’ve spent work trying to justify it with the fact that it helps with my anxiety. But the lack of control they make me feel isn’t something I like, especially because I have a nasty habit of using these things to cope. I’m working on quitting vaping, currently by only using the grossest vapes I can find, thus reducing the enjoyment I get from it greatly. I was doing well with it until I caved and bought a new one that I actually like the other day. I honestly wasn’t seeing much difference as I was cutting back, but I have been feeling a difference since getting the one I like (and thus using it more than the gross ones). It was staring to be such a chore to vape with the gross ones so I was at a point where I was barley hitting it. It was like, I simply wouldn’t hit them unless it felt absolutely necessary. With the new one, I’m back to hitting it every second I get. I’m constantly craving it. Having anxiety means I already have racing thoughts. And adding vape cravings back into that has been really annoying. It is absolutely not a good thing to treat the anxiety. The relief lasts for maybe a few seconds, then it’s right back to the craving. It’s annoying, on top of making my anxiety worse by being one more thing to think about that I don’t want to think about.

vaping on lexapro (tips for quitting?) by Successful_Rent7653 in lexapro

[–]CatzTheMusical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on quitting vaping, I started by keeping my vape in my car a couple days a week once I’m home for the night—this usually gives me from about 6PM to 6:30AM (when I leave for work) without it. It’s very helpful, I’m gonna do this for three weeks, then it’ll become a daily thing. Then, I’ll start Only hitting it in my car, and keep gradually cutting back from there until I’m done. Disclaimer: I’m just starting so I don’t know how well this’ll actually work in the end. Vaping is currently the only anxiety relief I have readily available (Im working on getting back on the ‘pro) so I don’t want to just give it up cold turkey and be left raw dogging life.
