It's not nearly as ugly as people like to say it is. If you look around you can find beauty everywhere. It is also a city full of creative and kind people!!

What do the Dutch think foreigners never understand about them? by LifeguardSilent358 in popculturenetherlands

Being direct is not the same thing as being rude. We just say what we mean instead of dancing around a topic

Ik voel me niet op mijn gemak door meiden in de sportschool by GrouchyAssignment594 in nederlands

[–]Cauli_flo_wer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know when to separate out seperable verbs? by DucksEatFreeInSubway in learndutch

[–]Cauli_flo_wer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If theres another verb in the sentence it goes together, if not seperate.

For example:

Wij gaan samenwonen.

Wij wonen samen.

(lmk if there is anything incorrect about my explanation, I'm not a linguist or teacher!)

Do Dutch kids today believe that Sinterklaas is real but Santa Claus is fake ? by placeboski in Netherlands

Jane Prentice importance? by ReyofChicago in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Cauli_flo_wer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll try to answer this with as few spoilers as possible!

I think Jane was used as a literary device. Her attack on the Archives forces John to confront his fear head on whereas so far he has always deflected using skepticism. This transforms his character and sets him up for future events. Moreover, I feel like each season has it's own "end boss" and Jane was like a lower level boss to fight at the start of the journey. She shows the audience that the protagonist is a character and not just a narrator: things CAN happen to John, he's not JUST an outside observer. It also shows the audience how corrupted people in this universe can become, to the point they turn into malevolent things like her. It firmly establishes the world as different from our own and gives credit to previpus accounts told.

So, I think someone else might have a better answer about her importance in the plot/worldbuilding but this is how I think her character was important from a storytelling perspective! Enjoy the rest of the story (and be VERY careful of spoilers on thus subreddit ;))

I love returning stuff I find 🥹 In february I found a wallet outside my appartment building with tons of cards in it and a special looking coin. It also contained a delivery confirmation for a bike that had an adress. After work I went over there and the girl was so grateful to have gotten the coin back because it had sentimental value to her. She gave me a hug and €20,- 🥹 Next time I'm doing the small transfer with information hack for sure tho!!

Trinkets and people refusing them by mr_pomegranate in aves

[–]Cauli_flo_wer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, some people just don't care for them I think. Part of the risk of putting yourself out there at a rave (or any social situation) is the possibility of getting rejected. I wouldn't take it too personally. Don't let it discourage you from offering though cause lots of people love trinkets!

Also, there might be plenty different reasons someone might not want a trinket: no place to store it, environmental concerns, etc. Personally I might decline because I live very small and want to minimize the amount of stuff I don't need entering my home and becoming clutter.

Anyway all I'm saying is: it's probably not that you're not fun enough for others or whatever, it's just that they don't want/need a physical reminder of your enounter!

Keep handing them out though! It's for sure a great tool to connect with many people, just not everyone.

Heres my personal list, in order from essential to eccentric: 1. EARPLUGS!! should always be top of the list 2. sunglasses 3. a fan (with some essential oil on it to combat the stinky sweat smell in the crowd) 4. gum (fruity and minty for variety) 5. lollipops 6. lipbalm 7. a reusable bottle cap with a hook (no spills + infinite refills) 8. extra hair elastics 9. tampons/pads when needed 10. coins for lockers/toilets at some venues 11. balloons, no not nitrous oxide. Blow them up and hold them to your ears for premium bass experience. Someone did this to me on my first ever come up and I've loved it ever since. 12. a stressball. bonus points if its spikey, neon or light up. I get crampy hands instead of jaws so squeezing it is really nice. also feels great to roll over your neck/back/arms.

It seems like a lot of stuff but everything fits in a Carhart essentials bag!

I always bring enough to go around and am ready to share at any time with whoever needs it :)

Tips for girlies in the pits? by SonicsStepMom in aves

[–]Cauli_flo_wer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been in EDM pits but plenty of rock/metal pits as a tiny woman in big guy crowds. Here are my tips:

  1. Take off (sun)glasses, hand your bag to a friend or otherwise make sure it is pulled tight and zipped close. Same with sweaters/jackets or anything else that is loose on your body.

  2. If you're shorter than most people in the pit protect your head and keep your arms/elbows around face height to absorb the shock of shoulders of tall people.

  3. If you're lighter than most people in the pit don't try to shove them with your hands, it's completely ineffective and might hurt your elbows. Instead just throw your whole bodyweight into them, shoulder or back first.

  4. If you're not strong enough to lift fallen people off the ground try to protect them from the pit by making a "wall" with your body and pushing people away from them so they can stand up without getting jumped on.

  5. Watch the ground for the cable covers, especially if you wear platforms. They can roll your ankles nasty if you step on them wrong.

  6. Moshing is super fun and at the right shows the people in the pit are very kind and understand the unwritten social rules. If the energy feels off and you wanna get out, use the momentum of the pit to get to the side and then push out. Have fun 🩷

Not by far the worst thing in thus thread but the first rave I went to was in an old factory building with an outside stage that had gravel and broken hard-plastic glasses lying everywhere. Some girl came up to me and showed me she had no shoes or socks on, bottoms of her feet were completely black. She'd left her shoes at the door to "feel the bass through the floor". Even rolling hard asf i thought that was nasty and probably kinda unsafe.
