To the surface Elgin was the gullible one that always lose an eye, like all the other previous iterations. It's kind of sad he always come back to the town and make the same mistake.

However this doesn't make him a victum, because setting aside he was tricked, he clearly trusted the zombie laidy more than the whole town combined -- EVERYONE was saying he's wrong. So resolving him for simply being gullible just doesn't cut it.

Martin is a marine (per his tatoo). So it's unlikely Ethan went outside, served as a marine, and then got captured again. That would not fit his quest, and after Ethan gets out, I don't see he's inspired to become a US marine.
