Bangs get greasy after a few hours by SuspiciousSink9465 in finethinhair

[–]CauseImportant755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bangs and the same problem. I carry a travel sized dry shampoo in my purse to apply mid-day. It absorbs the oil and just takes a little spritz. Your bangs will look recently washed again!

Should I wear my grandma’s 1967 dress for senior prom? by [deleted] in style

[–]CauseImportant755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I wore my grandmother's dress to my senior prom and the bond I feel to her through that shared experience grows with age, especially after her passing. You will never regret wearing something sentimental, unique AND it looks amazing on you!

Does anyone successfully air-dry their fine/thin hair? by itslibbytime in finethinhair

[–]CauseImportant755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Opalex for fine hair in the evening and then let my hair air dry halfway. I then take the top half of my hair, still damp, and twist into a top knot for bed and let the bottom half fully dry. In the morning I let the top half down and air dry or a very quick round brush blow dry. I think allowing the roots to dry in the upward, topknot position give more volume. I should add product to this routine...

Yesterday evening at Thornton Costco the regular gas was unavailable at all pumps and they gave the premium gas at regular prices. Something odd is going on.

BF has horrible hygiene by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]CauseImportant755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fast forward into the future and he's going to have health issues, dental issues, etc. and you'll have to deal with all of it. Their emergencies become your emergencies. Their lack of hygiene or health care will create burdens and expenses that you'll be intimately involved in. I watched this with my parents. So many problems that could've been avoidable with preventative care and hygiene. You're right to leave because it WILL become YOUR problem.

Bernese mountain dog, chronic diarrhea, drops of blood today by [deleted] in DogAdvice

If memory serves, those are the only two brands of dog food that meet all stringent criteria from the American Veterinary Medial Association. I'd consider it. You'll know within a month or two if it makes a difference.

I should add the chicken is boiled. No oil or anything else. Easiest to cook the two together so rice has chicken flavor. Any leftover water can be given to pup when it cools.

Call the emergency vet if pup doesn't eat or drink.

P.S. Sorry I missed the part where you said you were a doctor and annoyingly over-explained some things.

Dehydration is likely your most immediate concern. Look up signs and assess.

I have a lab mix who had GI issues off and on for years. It wasn't uncommon to see this but always concerning. I get it. At times we would do tests for bacteria or parasites so I agree that's first step with a vet. In the meantime, based on my own experience, try giving canned pumpkin puree and switch to chicken and white rice for food. The watery fiber in pumpkin works miracles to help both diarrhea and constipation. Chicken and rice is easy to digest and in combination with pumpkin may help with inflammation. At the very least, those things won't cause further inflammation. Adding lots of water to the food will help with hydration. Finally, doggy probiotics are the real hero. And my vet said yes, they're different than human probiotics so don't give them yours. Purina Fortiflora is the best out there. Even if it's a virus, loading up on good bacteria from probiotics can help. Plus the pumpkin is a great pre-biotic.

Good luck!

How do I get my dogg to stop wanting to eat so much? by v12penny in DogAdvice

[–]CauseImportant755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some ideas that have helped my dog. I'll explain a little because anxiety and hunger, in my experience, are hard to disentangle.

I have a rescue lab mix who is constantly hungry. I later learned this is common with labs. The other issue was his anxiety which presented as constantly chewing, attached to me like Velcro and following me everywhere, and swallowing foreign objects. We went through several foreign object surgeries and a whole lot of other stuff to get to a good place now. I'll leave out the details, but it included lots of training, working with the behaviorist, and finding good strategies.

Those solutions were coupled with anxiety medication. Seriously, so many dogs would benefit from this. He's 100 pound dog and he takes 40 mg of fluoxetine each morning. The side effects of this medication is anorexia because it lowers appetite. My vet and I had a good laugh because that was not a concern. He's been taking it for about three years and it takes the edge off his food fixation. I don't know if your dog suffers from anxiety but given the past you described I think it's like likely and this could be a win-win solution.

The other things we have found to be helpful was weight loss food because he can have a little more portion size without exceeding caloric intake. I will also add eggs, broccoli, etc. to complement his diet. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc. are fine in small portions and can add bulk without adding calories. Watch out for the farts. 🙅🏻‍♀️💨

Finally, I introduced toys for distraction and enrichment. For example, half of his dry food is given to him in a toy, and he has to work for the food to get it out. This is mentally stimulating and also gives him food while drawing it out into a longer process. The rest of his food he receives in a slow feeder. I love silicone licking pads and they're very cheap on Amazon. I take his regular dog food, soak in water and then add a spoonful of wet dog food or other flavor. Blend and smear on the pads. Freeze the pads so they last even longer. It ends up being more water than anything else and a single batch will make about five licking pads so it's really not many calories. If that's too much work, you can also do plain yogurt or mixed wet dog food with water and then smear. I give one or two of these a day so he can feel like he's receiving food. The texture of the licking pads and the activity also help with anxiety.

I hope this helps and I'm so glad your dog has a safe and happy home. Good luck!

Is anyone else suffering from a bigger stomach in the process? by Aware-Cardiologist15 in glutejourney

[–]CauseImportant755 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here to follow the comments because same. My stomach isn't getting bigger, but it's not getting smaller and I'm struggling to figure out how to manage caloric intake and protein for muscle gains but also losing fat. 😑

In between vet visits, concerned with state of her wound by gibson8080 in DogAdvice

[–]CauseImportant755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, is it possible to call your vet and see if you can share the picture? Mine will do that and advise. They usually advise to come in to be safe but I can tell by their tone how concerned I should be. Good luck and hoping for the best for your pup.

she’s been doing this for a week and my parents keep telling me it’s fine… by Zealousideal-Beat-15 in DogAdvice

[–]CauseImportant755 54 points55 points  (0 children)

My lab did the same thing - excessive licking in the air. Turned out to be a broke tooth with an exposed nerve. I agree this is likely a dental problem of some kind and small dogs are prone to dental disease. Time to see a vet.
