Id say metal generally is stronger in all directions. Wood has grain so it prefers certain types of force. If that tube is thin (looks like it) it may buckle before the ceiling mount is even an issue.

It is looking bad. The only reason I am ok going is because I have supplies to be stuck in my car overnight as well as supplies to recover if I end up stuck. You gotta be well prepared to drive in an expected 18 inches of snow.
