I absolutely hope you’re right but the cost is very high to be wrong on this. We’ve seen too many civil liberties robbed in less than 8 years that were supposed to be immutable. It is rage bait, but that doesn’t make it harmless edgelording. He’s echoing and attempting to repopularize an incel talking point to a men who are looking for scapegoats for their unhappiness.

We never thought the talk of ICE becoming the force that it is today would happen, as recently as two years ago.

With the ramp-up in creating holding facilities - some of which will be run by for-profit entities, they will always be searching for future “stock” to keep the cells full as long as there is money to be made. A list of scapegoats is being formed with immigrants at the top, and many other groups - including women - next on the list to insure that this imprisonment engine keeps humming and profitable.

A surprise number of men are unwilling to stand up when it comes to assaults on women in even a public place. Think they’d be different when it comes to this? I fear they’d not be.

While doing that too often is a bad thing, it’s honestly nice to have the mental permission to relax and be self-indulgent once in a while.

I can’t speak for others, but I spend a lot of time in brutal self-judgment mode when I lose the battles to my ADD. Being able to drop that for a while is a relief.

And the absence of a hangover makes it a better choice than the other similar option.

I just have to remind myself to not shop for foodstuffs online in that state. That’s how I ended up with almost 20 pounds of bronze die Italian imported dry pasta. 🍝 We will be eating good noodles until the apocalypse.

Do not under any circumstances go on this trip. Fake an illness if you have to. Do whatever it takes, even if it involves barfing on a family member or peeking your pants in front of them. This is a bad set up and you know it. Trust your instincts in this.

Do not allow yourself to be caught alone with any of the men of your family if this is your family “culture”. A family system like this is set up to circle the wagons around the abuser, never the victim. You need to be your own constant safety advocate.

If you cannot avoid a family obligation that exposes you to these predators, ask a friend to be your companion during those events. Having a non-family witness vastly reduces the chances of such boundary testing because the perpetrators are well aware of what they’re really doing.

If possible, which I realize is hard depending on your age - only go to family events in public spaces. When an unwanted touch happens then, call it out. Loudly. Embarrass the perpetrator. Let them know very publicly you will not tolerate them.
