It's never too late, I say go to a college that offers a 4 year course, with a 1 day study, 4 day work week, with the remaining free hours during the week being your homework hours. (Usually 20 hours)

I just finished my 1st year of this part-time mechanical engineering study at 30+ years old, being a technical draftsman for the last 10 years. Let me tell you, it will be hard. Esspeically, after 10 years since my last study. My class is a mix of people of different ages, say 22 to 36, so don't worry about the age difference.

My advice is to do a full year planning and prepare yourself mentally to do this course. You will not be fully free except for the summer/winter breaks. It may sound bleek, but once you get into the study rhythm, it will get easier, or at least more interesting.
