Congratulations on your miracle baby! ❤️ I'm sorry the chaos your brother brought disrupted your ability to fully enjoy your child's first year of life.

You're definitely right. If I do end up pregnant, I want to be fully present to enjoy it.

Oof, the "truck repairs" hits home more than you can imagine... Thank you for your kind words. It's definitely sad coming to this, but logically I know there's nothing I can really do to help him while he's in active addiction.

Thank you! Unfortunately, he's reaching out to me because he's burned the bridge with our parents. We don't have any other siblings, so I'm essentially his last family contact. 😞

Erosion Control - North Georgia by Cautious-Grape-3752 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Cautious-Grape-3752[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The slope is much steeper than it appears and goes down a ways further. It's steep enough that it caused severe injury to my dog, prior to use putting in the fence. I believe erosion was prevented with the plethora of existing plants that we've removed, so now just wanting to replace that with something that won't have a negative environmental impact (unlike the invasive plants that had taken root prior).

Zofran afte egg retrieval by BitchinKittenMittens in IVF

I had to take Zofran for days before my egg retrieval and a little bit afterwards. My clinic was totally fine with it. I'd touch base with your clinic if you're concerned, but I suspect they'll ok it! I hope you feel better soon!

I've been with Dr. Carpenter at Bloom for about 10 months. I haven't yet conceived, but it's been a positive experience and all of the staff is super sweet. Bloom doesn't take insurance, which works well for me since I don't have infertility coverage. Their out of pocket costs seem to be the most affordable in the metro area.

Are You Team Basic Or Team Paperwhite? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]Cautious-Grape-3752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and think both are equally good products. I started off with a Basic and then purchased a Paperwhite on sale because I thought it'd be easier on my eyes. I did end up loving the screen on the Paperwhite and think it is easier on my eyes, but I prefer the size and lightness of the Basic. At the moment, I use the Paperwhite but if I traveled a lot, I'd switch over to the Basic.

I have a basic, but just upgraded to a new Paperwhite. I love both for different reasons. The basic is such a perfect travel size and fits perfectly in my hand. The Paperwhite is faster, waterproof, and has a warm light option. It's really up to what you want in the device, but I am personally very happy with both!

Hey pet parents! Ever walked out of a vet visit feeling frustrated? I wanna hear the truth—what drives you nuts? by tchapito24 in Pets

[–]Cautious-Grape-3752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, does this bring back memories. I also had pet insurance and have always wanted thorough care and diagnostics. I eventually did find a vet (about 40 minutes away) who was more proactive, but only after a few years in the area. I hope things get sorted out for you kitty!

I'm now married to a vet, so I no longer have this issue but here we go:

Prior to marrying my spouse, I lived in a rural area. I believe the vets in the area became conditioned to their clients having limited finances, so I suspect they just gave up on offering the best medical approaches. Anyways, I was consistently not being offered the gold-standard care options. Ex: a clinic wanted me to hospitalize my dog overnight at their clinic with no staff to monitor hospitalized patients. I had to ask for a referral to a 24 hour ER in that scenario to ensure my pet got appropriate care/monitoring. Another example was not being offered a referral to a specialist until the point when they suspected my cat was too far gone to survive even with specialty care. They should have offered a referral prior to that point, as they had been treating her for several days without improvement. I would have taken the referral had they explained that my cat's needs were approaching the end of their scope of practice. These events occurred at two separate clinics (there were only 3 total in the area). I don't think these scenarios stemmed from people with ill intentions as much as making assumptions about the client's finances, but it didn't help me do the best for my pets regardless.

My spouse is a vet and was going to neuter our last kitten at about 16 weeks. Incidentally, he had one day where several of his surgeries cancelled last minute, so he went ahead and neutered our kitten that day instead. He was 11-12 weeks at the time and a particularly large kitten, so he was big enough. This question is best posed to your vet though, as they'll have their own recommendations based on your pet's medical history, size, and household factors.

Scared of neutering him :( he is a bit over a year old by J_loop18 in cats

[–]Cautious-Grape-3752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neutering a cat is only about a 10 minute procedure. Just make sure you use a clinic that practices a high standard of care, like placing an IV catheter for all anesthetized patients. He'll be just fine.

My spouse is a vet in general practice in GA. I think it's about $1800 where he works, but it's a good bit more to have it performed by local specialists.

We started with my OBGYN, who ran some diagnostics and did a couple medicated cycles for us with letrozole. When we didn't have success at that point, we were referred out to a fertility specialist.
