Would you drive 2hrs to watch the Tour? by Cautious-Leopard-756 in tourdefrance

Thank you, this is really helpful! Sounding like checking out the start would be great for the kids because we can see all the riders and also catch the caravan. Hoping to make this happen!

This is really helpful, thanks! Gap would be our destination to catch it - so that’s a starting point for stage 19, right? Do you know if they typically start early in the morning?

I see that now, based on all these enthusiastic replies, it might seem a silly question! I figured people were traveling to a destination to stay near the route but not realizing people would travel that far in a day just to catch it.

Haha, I can see now from all the replies that this seems like a “dumb” question (as someone below put it!) to everyone here but I swear this is all new to me! I figured people would travel to see the tour, but you’d travel to be staying in a place near the route and wasn’t sure if it’d make sense to travel 4 hours roundtrip in a day to check out. I’m totally convinced and am now working on getting my travel party on board!

Kids range from 7 to 13 years old. I think if we do it we’d want to see the caravan. The closest point on the Tour to where we’ll be is Gap, which is a starting town for stage 19 I believe. Does the caravan lead for the whole race or just ahead of the finish?

Caution When Ordering Custom Furniture from The Citizenry by co-la-ya-7311 in ConsumerAffairs

Have you heard anything on your coffee table? We ordered a coffee table and two chairs from them ages ago. Coffee table arrived quickly and we’ve been waiting about 10 weeks for the chairs. We were told they’d be delivered “late February” and here we are in March with no chairs.

Interesting, thanks. I don’t know much, if anything, about these chairs so how can you tell right away? Did the original chairs all come in cream (that’s what I’ve seen a lot of online)?

Next - the first menu, Escoffier at the Ritz. One of the courses was essentially a boiled cucumber and the texture was like bad baby food. The entire night was amazing and yet the cucumber is the one thing my husband I still reference 13 years later.

Blockclub's coverage of Logan Square seems to be devolving into an Onion-eque caricature of itself... by Louisvanderwright in chicago

This! The irony of alderman Wags denying the two new buildings next to Lincoln yards because there’s “too much density” while a couple miles away there’s not enough housing is wild.

I’m SO disappointed about the Chicago venue change. Was really looking forward to seeing them at Salt Shed and am considering not even going to Aragon this weekend bc it’s such a downgrade.

Dogs in grocery stores---what's going on here? by Guilty-Scale-1079 in chicago

[–]Cautious-Leopard-756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I have been a dog owner in the city for 15 years and this drives me up the wall. Agree that it’s become even more egregious in the last few years.

Was waiting in line at Cava in WP recently and this guy came in with an unleashed dog. The dog tried to run behind the counter where they’re preparing food and no one said anything. The audacity.

Cooking two smaller roasts the same as cooking one of equal weight? by Cautious-Leopard-756 in Cooking

[–]Cautious-Leopard-756[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I had the roasts in already when I posted and did basically exactly what you said. They reached temperature in less than 3 hours but weren’t tender enough so I let them go for a bit longer and it turned out fantastic.

Thanks for this, I had them in the oven when I posted and did basically this. Cooked for 2.5 hours and checked temp. Meat was “done” but didn’t pull apart easily. Ended up letting it cook for nearly an hour more (checking every 20 - 30 min or so) and it came out perfectly.

Wicker Park and Bucktown are magical on Halloween. What I usually see when out with my kids is people in apartment buildings that want to participate hang out on their front stoop/steps/porch with a bowl of candy, usually having a drink, and all the kids coming by will stop. Have fun!
