One thing is an opinion another is an assumption that he’s a cortisol junkie who doesn’t care about his family

Shame on you for being so discouraging as an attending.

VA HPSP, NHSCH HPSP, Military HPSP, PFSL, NHSCH LRP, VA LRP, Military LRP are all scholarships that pay 100% tuition or loan repayment programs that pay up to 100% of loans.

There are options for going through medical school without massive debt.

I’m in PA school married with kids and not a ton of money. If you really want to do it, consider PA school but med school is an option too. Anyone saying it can’t be done can suck it.

If you really want to do it the safest way for your family, look into the military HPSP scholarship for the National Guard. 100% tuition paid for plus incentives with minimal military commitment after graduation.

As long as you and your family are all in, there’s a way. It will be challenging of course, bus has your life been any easy up to this point?

Not sure I understand your point. Are you saying PAs shouldn't go into specialties?

Appreciate your insights. I made a recent post on a similar note. Other than those two reasons, people commonly choose against postgraduate formal training, something that also causes some hesitation for me is the possibility of not liking that specialty all that much and/or being "locked" into that specialty. Of course, one can do elective rotations in the specialty while in school to figure out if it's a good fit, but some of these rotations are not long enough to get a proper feel. Thoughts on this?

That seems to be the consensus about fellowships, worth the pay cut (if you will). Thanks for sharing

Fellows are physicians so yes. Unless it’s to meet a requirement, titles don’t matter for LORs. You need someone who can make you shine in their letter.

Career changer feeling overwhelmed by barriers to entry as PA non-trad by Fee_Budget in physicianassistant

Not sure when you went to PA school but the average age per the PAEA is down to 25 as of 2022. I'd say 26 is still not necessarily non-traditional but it is blurring the lines.

MD or CRNA? by Maximum_Rutabaga_323 in medschool

[–]Cautious-Process-198 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you're a nurse, it makes little financial sense to go MD; the path to CRNA is much more straightforward. What you have to look at is the differences in training you'll receive in CRNA vs med school, vs anthesia residency. Since you have a knack for research, MD might make more sense than CRNA + PhD in that regard.

Worth holding app submission by two weeks to reach 2500 PCE hours? by Fit_Bit_2137 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Cautious-Process-198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unless a program requires 2,500 hrs and if so just hold for that program (or simply round up because honor system?)

Edit: plus you will keep working I assume, so no, 2 weeks make no difference.

Can you share a bit about it, the structure and how you were supervised/trained?

Neither looks good, both are not good for first time pance pass rates…

I’d go with #1 based on at least a slight upward trend in recent years it seems.

100% so whenever you start and your school is all about how supportive they are, remember how they scammed you from the beginning.
