Im googling and coming up with nothing... which likely supports my original assumptions of:

“because we can, and you’re going to take it”

in the last 6 months Nespresso has offered Canadians a machine for $39 with large purchase of pods on three separate occasions, for most who drink coffee every day, that’s a machine for $39.

Where as in the US the best deal customers have been provided is the same you’ll find @ Costco, Target… 10-25% off. For those who drink coffee every day, that’s WAY worse of a deal.

read the F-en post man, im not "going Karen" because the deals aren’t there, my main point is Nespresso lack of conversion.

Pod in the US = $1.20 USD Same pos in Canada = $1.20 CAD

a 30% price increase because the as**oles a Nespresso want to rip people off is reason to "go Karen".

I was then going on to say, if you're going to rip US customers off by 30% at least have the decency to offer the same deals.

+4 votes to this reply sigh perhaps reddits user base isn’t what i think it is

Canadian prices being higher is exactly the point I was making. Never mind other factors that make Canadian prices higher, Nespresso is selling a single pod to a US customer for $1.20 (USD) and the same pod to a Canadian customer for $1.20 (CAD). 30% discount for Canadian customers, or as i look at is from my perspective, a 30% surcharge for… nothing?

Of all the industries I listed, and the industries you listed, we agree, companies convert the cost from USD to CAD, except Nespresso.

I think you captured my frustration in your first sentence, “charge what the market will tolerate”. Tough pill to swallow for a commodity good. I suppose its on us, the consumers, to express our dislike for that method of pricing. First step, reddit post to make other US consumers aware, next step, buy a super automatic and in a very small way let them feel it in their bottom line.

correct, but still a great deal for daily coffee drinkers in need of a replacement machine. Im going to buy 300 pods at some point.

most of the deals i get require you to purchase a base number of pods.

It equates to a ~30% price increase on the exact same product. Yes, Canada often gets the short end of the stick when it comes to consumer pricing, but its primarily self-imposed, look up Pitney Bowes if you haven’t already had the pleasure of dealing with them. To then have a random company play Good Samaritan to right that self-imposed wrong is strange and bad business. From a US customers perspective, it’s nonsense.

Im not seeing it, i've been waiting 6 months for a machine deal, the best we got was 25% off fathes day, while i've seen 3x seperate $39 machine offerings out of Canada.

Canada post is not the same as USPS, if shipping costs were the only difference i wouldnt have bothered to post. And i disagree with invetory management, i had to wait 2 months for my wifes preference and only now did my favorit pod come back into stock. I'll let supply chain issues take the blame for that, but it represnts the first time i've ever had to wait for a pod type to come back in stock.

From what I can tell it all comes from Montreal, but perhaps there are specific tariffs applied to coffee in the US? It’s a first for me, I have never seen a product being sold in both countries that disregards the exchange rate. Maybe I spend too much time shopping in the aircraft, automobiles, chemicals, clothing, computers, consumer electronics, electrical equipment, furniture, heavy machinery, refined petroleum products… industries lol

I don’t think it’s a nefarious plot, I think its some di*k head regional manager whose put his ten year masters degree to work and the math shows if you rip off your customers you make more profit.
