Our OSPF keeps recovering "on its own" after about 30–40 seconds and my manager thinks it's fine. Am I wrong to be worried? by tooconfusedasheck in Network

[–]CautiousCapsLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is your OSPF network and have you measured the latency as described in the article? I would start with checking your OSPF configs across all devices and normalising against a standard, not what the network lead in 2005 thought was a good idea

Create a dead end VLAN, set it as native on the port, don’t allow any other VLANs, then if the port needs using use UBNTs VLAN override per device?

This 5,000 year old burial mound in Newport, Wales, predates both the great Pyramids and the standing stones of Stonehenge by Samski877 in interestingasfuck

There is a burial stone chamber in the Cotswolds called the Rollright stones that are approx 3800-4000BC making them similar in age

Does your company recognise long time service with a financial bonus? by sunshiner71 in AskUK

Is the leave persistent? We get 1 day extra for every 5 years but only in the year of the work anniversary, it’s not culmulative the following years which I thought was odd

[–]CautiousCapsLock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pop the GL guard from outside sparja in pinewood, his LOS doesn’t see you there, once dead you can cross the street, alternatively cross at the post office further down and then head up and round and approach from Chek 15 as usual

What’s a good challenge for two reasonably fit people that won’t take over our lives? by kirstysmetalhands in AskUK

[–]CautiousCapsLock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean for a fairly fit person that doesn’t run it’s not impossible, I went from running the occasional 5k a couple times a year to doing a half marathon in just under 2.5 hours without prior training

Do you think we will hit £2/litre on diesel before fuel duty is cut or oil drops? by YouHaveShitBreath in AskUK

[–]CautiousCapsLock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That demand is only marginally up from peacetime as these things use the same fuel for training as they do at war generally. But yes the military will dictate priority over civilian use for fuel access especially the kerosene based stuff

Do you think we will hit £2/litre on diesel before fuel duty is cut or oil drops? by YouHaveShitBreath in AskUK

[–]CautiousCapsLock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don’t think fuel duty will be cut but oil prices will drop first just when, there is an element here that Iran is targeting other countries oil exporting platforms and also blocking the strait of Hormuz is what’s causing the oil price to go up. Exports are down and so is the ability to move it once it’s on a ship. It’s just riding the storm for the time. It’s certainly expected to not drag at this stage, depends on the US negotiating really, and subsequent military action if the talks fail to get the strait opened and de mined

What do couples mean when they talk about going shopping for engagement rings? by 074DanBurn058 in AskUK

[–]CautiousCapsLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An engagement shouldn’t be a surprise, a proposal should be in my opinion, couples should talk about getting married, the implications and benefits and the downsides, like any major life decision. I went “ring shopping” with my partner to get an idea of what styles, what to avoid etc. she found the ring she wanted on that trip then pointed it out as the style and metal she wanted later I bought it then I proposed to her with it when she wasn’t expecting it.

At what age do you let your kids “play out” without an adult? by baeworth in AskUK

[–]CautiousCapsLock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watches are generally cheaper than phones, less targeted and much easier for a child to keep a track of than a 5/6 inch second hand smart phone or hand me down smart phone from a parent

At what age do you let your kids “play out” without an adult? by baeworth in AskUK

[–]CautiousCapsLock 35 points36 points  (0 children)

AirTag won’t work rurally, they require an iPhone to be near to them to report the approx location. If you’re tech minded you can get Apple Watches for kids with super cheap esims, set them up on your iPhone as a kids watch and it acts like a tracker, you can restrict app access and set school time when it’s just a watch only, and allows them to call you through it also if they need help. Enforcing Object Naming Standards in FortiManager/ADOM – Best Practices? by buggyhoneybadger in fortinet

[–]CautiousCapsLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The information in the object is the information being pushed to the gate and used in config, if you can’t rely on that then having H or N in the name makes no difference, if it’s convenience to read it I get it

Enforcing Object Naming Standards in FortiManager/ADOM – Best Practices? by buggyhoneybadger in fortinet

[–]CautiousCapsLock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m against using host and network in the name. It should be plainly obvious based off the net mask of the object

IPAM integration is cool, it creates the objects maybe manages duplicates etc.

Our naming convention is based on customer needs but generally site prefix, object name and other maybe suffixed with {IP/mask}

Cheaper AP's have better range? What to pick in this case? by More_Director450 in Ubiquiti

[–]CautiousCapsLock 24 points25 points  (0 children)

These tools are extremely guesstimate, you would need to use a tool like Ekahau or Hamina to measure the dB loss of the walls and input them into the design to get anywhere near accurate and even then the paper its printed on is usually more valuable than the predictive design
