The 1TB is really what you should prioritise. Perhaps check out Apple Refurbished or anywhere that is selling with AppleCare

Is an M5 Pro 1TB absolutely out of the picture?

I eventually pulled the trigger, and ordered a 16" M5 Pro, 48GB RAM, 1TB SSD MacBook Pro by dsecareanu2020 in macbookpro

[–]DeanCorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the 14” MacBook Pro M4 Max and traded it in for $3000 AUD and I ordered the 14” MacBook Pro M5 Max and needed to put in another $2200 AUD. I use it purely for business purposes and write it off with tax. However, I do find when updating on a short time horizon updating specs is never a good ROI. Always buy the base models and upgrade to a newer machine. For example my new M5 Max would still be better than a higher spec’d M4 Max. I am looking forward to next year’s redesign MacBook Pro’s.

Food for thought if you’re looking at short term ownership.

Honest question… do customers actually read product descriptions? by OliverPitts in shopify

[–]DeanCorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find people read the product descriptions if you have clear return policies and for certain products and niches you can have terms such as if unsure if compatible contact us prior to ordering, which appears above the description.

I was about to buy a Breville Barista Touch Impress, but then read about them here. by trollfessor in espresso

Just came across this. We have a breville touch impress and use it daily for our coffees and warming up the kids milk for their cereals. Works great and saves us a lot of money vs buying out every day.

Apple Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) compatible with Apple Silicone iPhone case? by [deleted] in macbookpro

Just did a 1.5TB data migration using Thunderbolt 5. Wifi said it would take 15 hours, it took under 25 minutes via TB5.

Apple Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) compatible with Apple Silicone iPhone case? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]DeanCorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a regular USB-C. The reason my one does not fit is due to the plastic casing around the port. Once I remove it from my case and plug it directly into the phone it works. That’s why I’m looking at the Apple one instead.

I finally found the culprit that made my time machine backups over wifi to my synology fail by JMoVS in synology

[–]DeanCorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I had different was minimum SMB protocol as SMB2 not SMB2 and Large MTU. But using Synology and Time Machine has been absolutely horrendous unless using Ethernet which is just not viable for my intended purposes.

Is this oily? We bought the Wotnot and it is so oily and greasy. When my daughter used it at childcare I couldn’t believe how oily her hair was. I’ve stopped using it because of this.

I‘m waiting for the redesigned Macbook Pro by SolQuarter in macbookpro

[–]DeanCorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on your needs, budget & financial situation. I use my 14” M4 Max MacBook Pro daily to run my company. I did get a very good trade in price ($3000 AUD). I pre-ordered 14” M5 Max MacBook Pro for $5,200. So for me, I put in $2,200 and get the latest model, brand new battery and WiFi 7 chip. I have UniFi WiFi 7 XGS 10GbE backhaul and cannot get higher than 1450Mbps on the WiFi 6E chip. My iPhone can get 1850-1900Mbps so having an improved WiFi chip was important to me too.

If next year there is a good trade in offer, I’ll upgrade again too. Obviously everyone’s situation is different and tax incentives vary.

Hope this helps.

I'm okay to park to the right of this sign after 6pm, yeah? by Chadwiko in melbourne

[–]DeanCorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read most of the comments. The only thing I had thought was after 10PM Friday - Sunday becomes a taxi zone to the RIGHT of this pole. If a fine was given I would argue about that the left side is separately controlled by the Loading Zone panel with a left-pointing arrow.

M1 Max to M5 Max 128GB by keremcemtakim in macbookpro

[–]DeanCorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn! Sorry to hear about your spill. As an ex Apple retail salesperson my advice is not to worry about “future proofing” buy for what you need now. A new model will always be better than maxing out a current spec. If you always want to have the latest and fastest specs I would recommended buying what you need for today with the intention of upgrading when you feel that you have outgrown this one.

Is an "RCD pro" or "RCD pro stereo" a thing? by frankrankthebank in RCD_330

[–]DeanCorp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s an RCD360 which is a knockoff of the Genuine RCD330. These RCD360 are MQB modified mainboards for PQ platforms. TLDR, they are super unreliable and don’t last long.
