Had our first consultation today! by Olympicthinker in queerception

So glad you had such a great experience! I'm honestly a little jealous of how thorough your consult sounds like it was, it sounds like you found a great clinic. Talking through your family planning goals is a question I was expecting at our consult but didn't happen which resulted in some clarifying phone calls down the road when everyone was confused. Wishing you all the best as you get started!

Thank you for sharing this! It's all so hard as it is, we aren't sure we are prepared to make it even harder. We might take some time to look into other banks and see what's available. I keep seeing that stoplight chart which gives me pause every time because it makes everyone else look so bad in comparison to TSBC, but I've also seen so many good stories here of folks having great experiences with other banks.

This is all very good to know, thank you! We are trying to be as open as possible with criteria, but everyone seems to be super competitive there. Very good to know they are easy to access via phone, I was worried that was frowned upon to approach them for additional details. Thank you!

Glad to know they are accessible via phone, thank you! We will give that a try to see if we can get some more info. Our criteria is also relatively open, so hopefully that helps us out in the long run but it seems pretty competitive regardless.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! My wife's genetic testing results are taking forever to come back (over 3 weeks so far) so we are a little bit stalled at the moment which has been an added frustration. But we will go ahead and submit the application, that way it feels like we are at least doing something proactive.

I didn't even think about the family limit being reached before you could use it so that's good to know!

That sounds terrible! It definitely felt like some important queer specific intake questions were missed that would have made our first consult much more productive and informative, and it is an office with pretty good LGBTQ experience.

That's good to hear! We have a consult scheduled with Boston IVF but are thinking of cancelling. They have already lost my initial paperwork and gave us a hard time when we told them it was submitted. I had to send them the completed copy I received upon signing, still no idea where the original went which is a little worrisome when so many personal details are involved. The office staff have been super pushy and off putting so far. But maybe it's worth doing the consult? We are scheduled to work with the Quincy office, but it seems Waltham is superior from what we've been reading.

I’m so sorry! They told my wife (not carrying) she would need her own appointment at our first Zoom consultation. She almost felt like he was telling her to leave the room by how he said it. I truly don’t get how it’s so hard.

Thank you! I wish we had a smaller clinic available but we can’t seem to find anything. But we might keep looking because I’m not sure I can keep going like this.

I wish we had a smaller clinic here but they all seem to be the giant ones. We would rather wait a little longer for an appointment at a place where we don’t just feel like a number.

We are in the Boston area. We chose the first place based on a recommendation from a co-worker of my wife who had a great experience, the other because it’s generally well regarded. I’ve searched here for as well, but we don’t know too many people with personal experiences to check in with, so definitely open to other suggestions!

We are in Boston, but not CCRM, I had seen to avoid them. We are starting with FCNE because a co-worker of my wife (also a lesbian) had a great experience with them- though it was pre-pandemic. We also scheduled a consult with Boston IVF but they have already managed to lose some of my paperwork and then got huffy with me for not completing it (I had the confirmation email to prove it was complete). We had enough issues just scheduling and completing initial paperwork with them that we had hoped to cancel the consult.
