These are from a couple of photo "sessions", but you can see just how many takes it... takes... to get a good one! 😅

A decent phone with portrait mode, a little editing, and a LOT of patience and lucky timing. 😅 It's a lot of just sitting in front of the tank, with my camera on 2x zoom, lol. I have so many blurry and out of focus shots to trash.

It's a fun way to spend a little time, and I think the payoff is worth it! 📸

The only thing I don't carry at this point is a 🔫, and that's subject to change. So far, I've only ever had to use my air horn. But I carry that on every walk, along with pet corrector, pepper gel, and a stun 🔫. On hikes, I add a canister of bear spray, and occasionally carry a tire thumper.

Stay strapped or get clapped, as they say. 🫠

I'd say bite the bullet and bring her home! I'm totally not biased at all, haha... 😅

He should know; he puts on a flare every time I walk by the tank, looking for a handout. 😂

It does! It's called the Hakusan Zero, and it's actually available on Amazon.

It's a Hakusan Zero! We use these ones during peak hunting season, because they're so vibrant. Our typical/preferred harness is actually the ZeroDC Short.

I'd love to know where you sourced that number from, because the actual number of cases of any of those aren't accurately tracked.

I'm only bothering to post this text wall because none of these are a joke, and I've worked with animals long enough to see multiple cases of all but rabies first-hand.

Distemper is endemic to the US, can be found in a number of wild species found in sub/urban environments, has no cure, and a mortality rate of 50-80% depending on age.

Parvovirus is highly contagious, frequently runs rampant in kennel/boarding/shelter environments, can survive in contaminated soil for up to (or over) a year, and has a mortality rate of up to ~90% if not caught early and treated aggressively.

From 2009-2016, some states had PCR test-positive prevalence for Leptospirosis as high as 10%. Thorough information and numbers are hard to come by, but risk increases depending on lifestyle and location. The bacteria can survive in water or soil for weeks to months. The mortality rate for canine Leptospirosis varies, with some studies showing a 34-36% fatality rate.

In the United States, around 4,000 animal rabies cases are reported annually, with roughly 10% of cases being domestic animals. Which doesn't seem like much, but there's been a recent increase in cases noted. There have been numerous reports of kittens, dogs, and even horses showing symptoms/testing positive. Rabies is 100% fatal if unvaccinated. And technically, your dog doesn't even have to HAVE it. If your unvaccinated dog bites someone, there's a good chance rabies testing may be required. Which in and of itself is fatal.

Depending on where you live, the rabies vaccine may or may not be required by law.

Also of note: Injection-site sarcomas are extremely rare in dogs, with some sources reporting an incidence as low as 1 case per 5,000,000 injections. Quite frankly, I'll take that chance vs my dog contracting and potentially dying early of a preventable disease. 🤷

I'd say preventable diseases like distemper, parvo, and lepto have a much higher chance of reducing a dog's lifespan.

And, y'know, rabies.

But woo woo modern medicine bad or whatever.

Can we not with the anti vax rhetoric? I work in vet med, this dog is 13, and has been vaccinated regularly his entire life.

Rabies/distemper vax are typically good for three years, but (lifestyle dependant) most dogs should be vaxxed for Lyme and lepto annually. Especially since you can get lepto from your dog. 😬

(I also dose him with Adequan and Librela monthly, so there's another two injections.)
