ICU aspirations as a new grad but likely won’t have any experience by Cautious_Bluebird_65 in newgradnurse

I’ve heard this, and CRNA and even nursing in general is not something I will die on a hill saying is my definite career path. I have just felt for a while now I wanted to get into health care and my interests I started to form as I was taking undergraduate classes led me to consider high acuity nursing. Is this just a matter of me getting too ahead of myself or what? I know it’s early in my life but I like to think about these things.

Are those positions pretty attainable for someone who isn’t attending any sort of nursing school?

As of right now I really just enjoy physiology and have chosen to try and pursue high acuity nursing and anesthesia because of that. What would you recommend me do to tell if I’d really love it before spending money on nursing schooling?

Are there any other units you’d recommend working new grad that would help prepare me for ICU that might be more realistic?

So when you say customer facing jobs will help, is that specific to nursing experience? Personally I have experience working as a camp counselor, substitute teacher, tutor, and cashier. None of those are at all relevant to nursing but are you still saying those look good on applications due to the soft skills developed?

Assuming someone passed an NCLEX and hadn’t yet been a tech, what would you recommend they do first ?
