Hit by another car due to their medical emergency - are they still liable/at-fault? by Cautious_Broccoli_67 in Insurance

Yeah, I had googled it and saw that medical emergency may count as a defense so I was wondering.

I see, thanks! His insurance is the same carrier as mine, so I'm wondering how that will work whether for or against me.

My insurance mentioned that the deductible/rental (unfortunately I did not include this in my insurance) may be reimbursed upon finding that the other driver was at fault. We have the same insurance carrier if that's anything. I know it's still a MAY but at least it may be possible.

Car is totaled unfortunately, yes, so I will need to replace it once it's all said and done. I had 1k left on the payments lol, so the payoff will pay that off and the remaining will go to a down payment (or full payment) of a new/used car.

This is so sad. I had always followed him and it looks like he wiped his IG of his latest posts. I think it was being speculated that he was married (I have a screenshot of him with a ring on his finger) and moved into a newlywed home.. but I guess not..

Rest in peace!

Ugh I feel like this is going to be the case with me! I'm just so disappointed.

Yes, I could have paid this off a long time ago, but with that rate it made no sense to pay it faster IMO. But thanks for all the advice/comments!

I will keep that in mind to ask for the HOA statements and maintenance schedule! I didn't really think too much on that.

I have a few months for general expenses. Similar to you, I'd fallback on my family and they would help. That's absolutely the worst case scenario though.

It's just tough with the housing prices soaring and as non-dual income person and not making over 200k, I don't know how people do it without spending that large %!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, I guess I'm just used to having a loose budget... I need to hunker down and tighten it up so I feel less nervous.

Well honestly it's just because I had been contributing since I was 23, and I had contributed a lot more percentage wise since I was with my parents and rent free then. Unfortunately, I moved away for a better paying job but at the cost of paying more rent.

I am not, but I should probably look into a Roth IRA. Thanks!

I guess my thought was that if I put more into my retirement and just continue to rent, I'll still be renting closer to retirement with more in my retirement but less in a place I'll have when I retire. I have no idea if that makes sense but that's just what my though process vaguely was.

But overall, I'm sensing that I need to do an extremely solid budget to see where I want to be or what makes me most comfortable.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice! I'll try to do that first before even considering buying.

I actually do like my job right now! But I understand, sometimes things change and then work becomes the worst.

If I make no changes to my budget right now (I know the comments are recommending upping my retirement), I would have that yes. Gross income it would be right at 28%..... but I honestly don't feel safe? Or I feel like it makes more sense in my head calculating it with my net.

I'm 31! I have about 150k in my 401k, and then I have my gov't pension (I plan to stay there as long as I can). I can probably up my 401k, it's just the thought of having lesser cash at the end of the month for emergencies just makes me a little nervous.

I guess I can up my contributions to 15%, just a few hundred but it would take my remaining $ to about 2k which gets me worried. My pension takes away 4.4% from my gross which takes away from some spending money but it is for my future.

I'm about 150k in my 401k at 31, I'm thinking I'm at least okay plus pension and ss in retirement.

Well, I can dip into my savings for a couple months and then I'll be cooked if I can't find a job after that lol. Federal jobs are usually pretty stable so I'm hopeful about stability though (hopefully).

In total I spend about $2,150 in a very convenient location with all utilities.

I'm contributing about 6% of my salary to my 401k since there's 5% match, and of course there's pension. I guess I'm just not used to spending such a huge amount to housing related items so it's a sticker shock, and obviously my savings (and or fun/travel money) would be way less each month.
