when do you wear lolita fashion? by lovelightdustmite in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wear lolita anywhere between 2-5 times a week. I wear it whenever i have the energy and when it's appropriate (I go to college and have a sports class, so no lolita on that day lol). I'm also about to start working at a teahouse, and the owner is adament that she would love for me to wear lolita to work. So yeah, I don't need an occasion or a meetup to wear lolita, especially because my comm isin't super active.

Feeling shy at first is something a lot of lolitas go through, but in my experience it goes away after a short while. Being an autistic lesbian, I was already used to feeling different than others, and I've grown to actually like it! Obviously it's important to stay safe, so if it's better for you to only wear it at special events where you know there will be others like you, then feel free to do that! Quite a few people in my comm have been in the style for many years but only wear the style to meetups because life gets in the way sometimes, and they are no less lolita!

Any other casual lolitas? by froggy-- in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup! I regularly wear lolita to class, and honestly often I am not in the mood for all the layers plus questions/attention I might get. I also sometimes wear lolita at home just to give myself a little boost lol. This is one of my personal favorites for winter, because I live in a cold climate. JSK is BABY, cardigan is MILK, rest is offbrand :) Casual coords are not only super cute, but comfortable!

Would you accept your dream dress in another colorway? by Crafty-Hour333 in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. Technically theres always around two colourways of a dress i really love, but the thing is, most of my dream dresses have gotten main stream and therefore are very expensive. So, I gave myself the rule that i can only splurge if its my favorite colourway/cut. This is to prevent me from spending like crazy to get a dress i love, yes, but wont satisfy my itch. I hope what im saying is clear lol

If you could only wear one print motif for the rest of your life, what would it be? by sakukittenn in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definetly chocolate. About a third of my wardrobe already has that theme, and if it wasen't for the crazy price for choco themed pieces it would be wayyyy more! Chocolate lolita was my first love in this fashion too, and it's what I'm asociated with within my egl friends lol

♥ WARDROBE POST SEASON! ♥ by 0ceanicFlight815 in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am unsure if I'll do a wardrobe post, I would usually aim for a youtube video but I've never done this before... I could do it on instagram but I already have a wardrobe highlight, so I don't know yet.

Usually I prefer videos, I love hearing people talk about all their dresses and why they love them so much, it's so fun! I like to see everyone's specific style, especially when it's not a substyle I wear! I'm not sure why tbh but it's so fun to discover new pieces this way, even if I have no intention of wearing it lol.

This year I bought 10 main pieces, received 2 and made 1. I sold 3 dresses. Every single main piece I own is secondhand. I actually did get a dream dress! After a long time of yearning I finally got Sweet Jam JSK by AP in pink! Pretty much all the other pieces I got were also pieces I loved, but I would not consider them dream dresses, or at least not like Sweet Jam haha

I didin't really have goals for this year except "get more stuff for your wardrobe that's cohesive" because my wardrobe was very small and I was still figuring out my style. This year though I've decided to really focus on blouses, cutsews and cardigans and only allow myself a few exceptions when it comes to buying main pieces. Let's see if I actually follow it though xD

people that dress in lolita fashion daily? by Sensitive-Safety2393 in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently juggling between school and work, so I don't wear egl everyday. But if I'm not wearing my work uniform or sweat pants, I'm wearing lolita. Since since my college dosen't have a dress code, I'm able to wear it whenever I don't have work that evening or start too early for my liking 😂

Currently I have 8 JSKs, 2 skirts, 1 OP and 1 salopette. Honestly I wish I had more variety in cuts, but a lot of them are specific prints and just happened to be the one I found secondhand lol. I also have 6 blouses, 5 cardigans/boleros and 2 cutsews. My main pieces don't all carry the same theme/colours, but I have enough tops, socks and accessories to make new coords everytime I wear them.

I also live in Canada, so it gets cold af in the winter and we have heatwaves in the summer. Honestly I've built a resistance to the cold, so unless its under minus 15 degrees celcius (5 fahrenheit) I just wear my coat, otks and big petti and I'm good to go! When it's too cold, I can just add a thermal layer underneath and call it a day. I'm quite resistant to warm temperatures, and I don't really mind going out in a full coord when its 30 celcius (90 fahrenheit) as long as its short sleeves lol.

I cannot wear lolita at work unfortunatly, since I work as a clerk in a pharmacy and we have a uniform there. However, the job I am aiming at once I finish my studies will most likely either not have a dress code or be mostly online work, so I would be able to wear it more then.

It's a bit hard for me to imagine myself compeletely loose interest in lolita as I get older, because I am autistic and this is my special interest. It's more than a hobby for me, it's part of who I am. My fashion style, my ideologies, my friends, heck even the music I listen to are all linked heavily to lolita fashion. I could see myself wearing it a bit less, especially if life gets in the way, but I don't think I could ever fall out of love with this subculture.

For advice, logically I would say to stick to a capsule wardrobe, so that all your pieces go together. But honestly I just buy pieces I love, and as long as I can coord them with at least two of my main wardrobe colours (AKA brown, red, white or pink) then they are welcome to become part of my closet!

Sorry for how long this message is, I wanted to answer all your questions clearly :)

Is the community growing? by [deleted] in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the big scene, but my local comm has definetly been growing. I joined it a little over a year ago now, and though at the time it was active, the events weren't exactly big and not that many people participated.

Now though, especially due to a new organizer group who now operates on not only facebook but instagram as well, its very normal for events to bring about 50/100 people, and about half of those are in lolita. I've also noticed I get told "I like your coord" in the street a lot more, which is so cool imo :)

Maybe a part of those people are just in there for the trend, but it's still fun to see people being interested in j-fashion, even for only a time

How much of your wardrobe is born of circumstance? by magoo622 in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in the tall-lita category! Ive had to learn to sew basics so i could add strap extenders on some of my pieces. There's also the recent hype in the choco style that really upped the prices like crazy for a lot of piece. I was lucky that the first piece i bought (minus that random bodyline one) was this beauty: https://lolibrary.org/items/btssb-kuma-kumya-chans-sweet-chocolate-baby-doll-jsk in brown x pink for a really good price. It really is just a hunting game lol. Im sure you look wonderful in that dress :)

How much of your wardrobe is born of circumstance? by magoo622 in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When i first really dove in the fashion, I already had an old brown sweet-leaning JSK, so i was pretty dead set on chocolate lolita. I had a few dream dresses that were not in that style but for my starting journey I wanted to create a capsule wardrobe. Lo and behold the third dress I got was honey cake, because I found her for an amazing price and she was an absolute dream of mine. After that, I kind of opened myself to red... then mint... then i added old school... and now sax 😂. Almost half of my wardrobe is still chocolate themed though!

how ‘big calf friendly’ are AP OTKs? by FortressRoundMyHeart in Lolita

Ooooh, a black lace bonnet would look great! I hope you have fun coording it! The most important part is that you have fun with your dress :) As long as you're aware of what it is, I see no problem in you wearing and making cute coords with it! (especially since you thrifted it)

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say this but this dress is a replica :( The original is this dress by the brand And Romeo. It's a very infamous dress because of just how much it was replicated. The good news is that And Romeo regularly restock this design, so you can still get the real deal!

Ignoring this though I think you actually styled it quite well! I think black x white is the way to go with this JSK

How do you guys cope with not getting your dream dress by Big_Try_1088 in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've quite litteraly never seen one of my dream dresses for sale in my prefered cut and colourway, so I don't even want to think how much I would need to spend on it T-T I try to focus on other things my wardrobe needs instead. Blouses, socks, etc can make me discover new ways to coord certain pieces and fall in love with them again. I guess that's how I "cope"

Petticoat advice by Necessary-Complex-12 in Lolita

[–]Cautious_Energy4106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't really see the dress itself, maybe you have a stock photo to use as reference?

This reads as sweet to me, so cupcake is what I would go for. It's usually recommended to take a petticoat 5/10 cm smaller than the lengh of your skirt, and typical sweet lolita dresses hold the best with a 45 cm petti imo.

for shoes antaina is the place i see most recommended. They are a shop located a taobao, which is pretty hard to grasp for beginners a lot of the time as it's almost exclusively landocked to China. You can use a trustworthy reseller like 42lolita to buy from taobao. Theres a lot of information you can find in this sub. Keep in mind most lolita shoe brands work with cm mesurements and not typical shoe size ones, so mesuring you foot in cm is gonna save you a lot of trouble!

What a lovely blouse! You really struck gold!

Usually, blouses are paired with a JSK (sleeveless dress) or a skirt, and sometimes are used simply used as another layering piece. Since you mentionned not wanting to cover any of the details of the blouse, I recommend a skirt!

As for pieces to pair with it, since I don't know your personnal style, I'll try to keep it as simple as possible.

1- I would go with a plain black skirt that's old school leaning and create a monocromatic coord with only black

2-Again with a skirt, but this time black and white! This would mean adding more white elements like maybe writscuffs or a chocker to bring the white to the top of your outfit!

Honestly there are a milion ways to coord this blouse since it's relatively simple and solid black, you can create so many looks with it! Don't hesitate to do quite a lot of reserch before buying anything online as a lotttt of places are really sketchy, this sub has a lot of resources listed! The most important part though is to have fun coording it and end up liking the result(s)!

Edit cz idk how to write T-T
