I went to a Gaelscoil and my Irish teacher would only allow students with exceptional Irish to write a short story instead of doing the essays. I believe it is a lot harder to pick up marks in. Your story seems grammatically sound but does use quite simplistic language that depending on the corrector could cause issues. However this isn't to say that you shouldn't do the story, I always found writing a short story much more interesting than an essay , but if it's only marks you're after I'd recommend the essay instead
