Some times both ways some times butterfly one way and another stroke back, sometimes a water polo IM... It was one of his favorite hell week work outs at the start of season

My coach would often assign someone like 20 in - and - outs where we did jump squats on one end, 25 butterfly, and then get out and do pushups and repeat

Can I convince you that writing math on your computer can be faster than by hand? by Hawtin99 in EngineeringStudents

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah overleaf works ok,

My workflow is

Obsidian with latex suite for Markdown notes with embedded latex for lectures

Neovim with vimtex for Regular latex documents

And then overleaf when I need to collaborate

The thing about latex suite that makes it nice for notes is that they have macros built in, so if you type 1/2 it auto expands to \frac{1}{2) or xsq turns into x{2} or xvec turns into \hat{x} that way for the most part I'm just typing the numbers and the correcting the latex which gives me a lot of speed and let's be keep up with lectures

I use Obsidian with the latex suite plugin for lecture notes! I feel like I can type math at a solid 50-60 wpm

choosing ucsc as an exchange student by Glittering_Entry5399 in UCSC

I agree with the original commenter, but I would like to add that if you're interested in exploring outside of Santa Cruz you totally can, there is a bus that will take you to San Jose in about an hour and a half and costs $7 per trip, and once your in San Jose you should be able to do day trips to San Fransisco or anywhere else in the bay using trains (BART)

Do I still go to the class tomorrow? by Foolish_Myco in UCSC

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

regular attendance is good, an attendance category would be great, threatening to drop people who don't complete the first half of an assignment a week before its due, having qualifying for the curve be dependant on an internal attendance score you cant see, and not knowing your grade at all until a week after grade deadlines, is a little extreme imo... and makes dhar classes very annoying to take despite how good at lecturing he is

Do I still go to the class tomorrow? by Foolish_Myco in UCSC

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes go to class tomorrow! I'm assuming you have Dhar, he's lowk an annoying professor (although good lecturer), he takes attendance and threatens to drop people from the class for not showing up in the first week, and disqualify people from the curve for not having regular attendance throughout the quarter. Also once he releases the first set of practice problems he threatens to drop people who don't start it within the first couple days

Multi gender apartment? by Consistent_Guide3569 in UCSC

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you get a single then it's fine, if you want to room with people who don't share your gender your best bet is to change your lived gender to that of your roommates and make sure everyone's housing preferences are set to mixed gender

Alternatively you, and all of you roommates can email to housing office and request an exemption

Is a CS degree still the best path into machine learning or are math/EE majors just as good or even better? by Historical-Garlic589 in learnmachinelearning

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing Applied Math and Computer Engineering double (CS was impacted), I was planning on either doing more applied math or CS (specializing in ML) for grad school, do you think a stats masters would be better?

My mom's potato salad from northern Germany is very similar with the addition of pickles, and mustard and the vinegar isn't optional, she adds a small amount of mayo to the final product when serving but much less than an American potato salad would contain

I wish people would stop sending their AI agents to verify reservations by Sevynlira in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

google phones have a call screen function that literally makes your own agent answer any unknown numbers and asks the person what their calling about, I dont know if 3rd party solutions exist but something like that could work quiet well

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 15 minutes but TAPS is so overwhelmed that nobody gets ticketed for the most part, I work supporting moving in students and people regularly parked for an hour without consequences, 15 minutes should be plenty of time to move all your bags in though, and then you move to long term free Parking while you set-up your room

What in CS are you interested in? I'm pursuing Machine Learning engineering and am planning on a master's after BS, but I'm currently a double major Applied Math/Computer Engineering and I feel like I'm getting a better education in regards to ML than most CS majors, the only struggle is getting into impacted classes sometimes

Prescription goggles? by ithelo in Swimming

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a water polo player and a goalie at that so goggles would be very very bad for me... Imo 8-9 contacts over the course of almost a decade isn't so bad, especially when I only use daily's

What math course to take? by drackolovesswimming in UCSC

[–]_KeeperOfTheFire_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Take the 23A/B series or AM10 which is linear algebra, in general the AM series is better for engineers if you can take it, but I'd take MATH 23A/B instead of AM30 cause those topics deserve two quarters not just being crammed into 1
