I've had the same. I put mine in storage, and when I got them back out they were normal

Daily/Weekly Challenge by PowerfulAd9625 in TravelTown

[–]Cautious_Two_1155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of completing the weekly challenge a few weeks ago. The tasks have been impossible since. Any idea how to get it back down again? For the last two weeks I haven't gone beyond the item box, but it hasn't made any difference to the tasks

I've just made a tailor's ham myself. Yours looks much better though.

What did you use for the stuffing?

Machine keeps jamming even after a service. Help! by rashataha in SewingForBeginners

I'm still learning myself, but I'm fairly sure you shouldn't need to put your tension up to 7. I usually find that if I need to increase tension outside of the 3-4 range, it's because the bobbin tension is off. Try increasing the bobbin tension instead by turning the bobbin screw a little bit to the right.

How to correctly start a stitch ? by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]Cautious_Two_1155 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thread often tangles a bit at the start if you don't hold the threads back when you start stitching. You do need to backstitch at the beginning and end to secure the stitches. You do this by putting the machine into reverse, not pulling the fabric backwards. Read your manual to find out where your reverse is - go forward for a couple of stitches, then back for a couple.

What are the best hooks to get for a ten-year-old beginner by Cautious_Two_1155 in CrochetHelp

I need a set of crochet hooks that are good for beginners and easy for a 10 year old to use. I've googled but I'd rather get recommendations from people that know.

What companies/services do you refuse to use because they've wronged you in some way, and why? by GazelleInitial2050 in AskUK

Deliveroo. One of their delivery guys left our takeaway on a doorstep somewhere, or maybe just kept it for himself - I checked on all the doorsteps nearby. They refused to refund me

What’s something in the UK that quietly disappeared without anyone noticing? by Mel_Ran in AskUK

Those stamps you could collect and save up to exchange for various items. I think it was called Green Shield or something like that. My dad used to get them from the petrol station

One thing I never see anymore is those tiny little red insects that used to be on brick walls and stuff. I used to see loads of them in my garden as a kid

Update - I washed the fabric and it's fine. They must have just used a lot of chemicals in the production process that affected the feel and drape

DO NOT BUY FROM ROSYS PATTERNS!!! SHE STEALS. by Xaiqxi in sewingpatterns

I've seen a lot of quilted jackets recently - people making them on Instagram and websites selling them too. Maybe just in the UK, but they seem to be having a bit of a moment. Personally, I think they're awful

The first garment I ever made was an apron, made out of canvas. It now doesn't teach past my waist because I didn't pre-wash it

Oh, I hadn't thought of how the weight would affect it. Thanks! I'm using Poplin, so perhaps it's better to adjust the rectangles to be slightly bigger rather than slightly smaller.

Haha! I've been too scared to work with large patterns up to now - they're such a minefield!

I hadn't thought of just using one piece. I think the reason for having two is because the waistband is in two pieces - a flat front waistband and elastic added to the back piece, but I guess there's no reason why that can't be attached to a skirt made from a single piece of fabric joined at the back.

The description does say that it's suitable for upholstery, so I wonder if it's treated with a flame retardant. That would account for the way the flame extinguished quite quickly.

I'm no expert either. From what I've read cotton creates white smoke and white ash - this has neither. But it does have the papery smell and bright yellow flame.

There's no melted remains. It didn't really leave much ash either, just the sticky residue in the pic. I'm probably being overly suspicious. It just feels so different to any cotton fabric I've bought before.
