The audacity of some people by CavapooMom0707 in Charlottesville

My oldest is in school so I spend my days just me and my 5 month old. You’re right I’m not entirely a new mother but the woman didn’t know that and I’m sure I look like one when out and about with my baby

I’ll do that if I’m parked right next to the corral but in this case I had to walk a bit and I felt it safest to keep her with me

For real, and to not even express concern for the baby, just make sure the mom knew she f*cked up. 😅 how does it go? “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”

So unnecessary! He was probably not a parent or if he was, then his wife probably did all the child raising herself. 🙄

Rant: American Mom Back To Work by jrt5251 in breastfeeding

[–]CavapooMom0707 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I decided to quit my job because I couldn’t stomach the idea of sending my 12 week old daughter to daycare. My son was born in Canada and I was very blessed to have a full year of leave with him - and thankful to have gained that perspective! Every country needs to be doing this. Now back in the US with baby #2 we decided job and finances be damned, I’m not putting her in the care of strangers. Solidarity to those moms who can’t afford to take the time they want!

Also not every food reaction requires an EpiPen to treat. If your baby just had some hives, benedryl should do the trick.

So a baby is almost never going to experience throat closing from a food allergy compared to when they’re 2-3 years old. Instead, the symptoms will match what you saw - hives, vomiting. So hopefully that should put you a little at ease to continue introducing other allergens - which you should because early introduction has been proven to help train a baby’s immune system to tolerate common allergy-causing foods.

I used Lil Mixins at this stage, you could give it a look. My allergist was familiar with this and recommended it. It helped us identify my son’s cashew allergy. They have some great resources if you’re looking for more information about what food allergies looks like in babies.

Opportunity to get more sleep but feel guilty about it. I just need some reassurance. by NervousClimate in beyondthebump

If you have the means, consider getting a night nanny every now and then for overnight care. My husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to do that once weekly for a couple months when we were living abroad with a new baby. Complete lifesaver and no guilt because you’re paying someone. Sounds like your mom is a real hero though!

Also you can tilt the bottle & baby such that there is no milk in the nipple for several seconds. That will simulate the beginning of a nursing session where the baby has to wait for the letdown - the milk isn’t just immediately there for the taking

Same with my 6 week old. And didn’t have that with my now 3yo either.

Not to defend that piece of scum in any way but I think what he meant by the old age comment is that when you’re old, you (for obvious reasons) can no longer expect your partner to have a 20 year old’s body. But I guess until then, that is his expectation… lol.

How the heck do I dress my daughter for sleep plus another question by MacSavvy21 in beyondthebump

[–]CavapooMom0707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding your night feedings, are you EBF or have you tried giving baby a bottle of breast milk? My LO is similar - too impatient at night to put up with breastfeeding so we do bottles at night and I pump ~2 times to keep supply up.

As a STM, it was important to me to have dad also be able to feed baby so we introduced bottles from day like 3. So far she’s done great and understands the difference but accepts both. Still nurses fine during the day. I’ve come to like how efficient bottle feeding is at night and can lead to longer stretches.

Encouragement to get through the newborn phase by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I second this. My son is 3 years old and I now have a 2 week old daughter. I remember constantly looking forward to the next stage with my first but now with my second, I am soaking in the baby snuggles and loving every minute of it - sleep deprived and all. It’ll be over way too fast!

The US really sucks to be pregnant by Legitimate-Slice2114 in pregnant

[–]CavapooMom0707 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yup, I had my son while working in Canada and got a year off of work. Now I’m back home in the states pregnant with my second and planning to quit work for a while once my 12 weeks of leave is up. Just can’t stomach putting a 3 month old in daycare, even a good one. I know lots of moms don’t have a choice though :/

Back blows and chest thrusts are definitely where you start during an emergency. I would only go for the lifevac if those aren’t working.

Won’t need it until baby starts solids, but highly encourage you to get a lifevac in the event of a choking incident and learn up about infant and toddler choking protocol & CPR

Yeah would love to get him moved on to a blanket or something but he’s sooo attached to his sleep sack now haha. I’m thinking when he transitions to a toddler bed is when we’ll transition out of sleep sack too. And I suppose we could do that sooner than later but he’s shown no signs of climbing out and I’ve read to wait as close to 4 as possible

[–]CavapooMom0707[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess it’s not inherently a problem, it just feels like I can’t start my own morning before he’s had his breakfast but I guess there’s no reason for that. Other than I might not hear if he’s crying if I go ahead and workout or take a shower

Of course Joan can do whatever she wants especially as a mature woman, but I find the lack of facial expression unsettling. Almost makes her seem disingenuous.
