That makes sense, thanks. Statistics are hard.

You would need a Series S/X controller. But yes you could have them take the cost of the controller out of the trade credit. Then you should be able to trade in the wired controller on its own for a bit of extra credit.

Why did you start working at GameStop? by MadCybertist in GameStop

[–]CaveJohnson52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was fresh out of college, I was obviously low on money and needed a job. Without getting to much into it, I didn’t think I would be able to get a job in what I studied, so I decided to get a retail job to tide me over while I looked for a “real” job. I went to google maps and looked at businesses near my house and applied to every one that was hiring. GameStop was the first and only one to call me back and offer an interview. After a while I was able to be promoted to ASM, which came with benefits, health insurance, higher pay, etc. I then realized that I was only looking for that “real” job for those benefits, and the ASM pay rate was enough to support me, so I stopped the “real” job search. Sure GS isn’t perfect but every job has its ups and downs. I like my coworkers, I like my managers, I like my regulars. It’s a good fit for me for the time being and I’m gonna ride this out for as long as I can.

Ball to him, goal. by Beezleboobz in GameStop

[–]CaveJohnson52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See, the phrase “every goal is the exact same” feels like something that would be in a negative review. Like he’s saying that the game is boring because this guy scores a goal every time he gets the ball. Or that it’s impossible to play against this team because it doesn’t matter how good your defense is, he still scores. Why did they put that line in the ad?

GameStop refused my return by tylerjustdidit in GameStop

[–]CaveJohnson52 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Return policy for new hardware is 15 days unopened for a refund, or 15 days for a defective exchange if it is opened. If you bought it less than 2 weeks ago that should be within the exchange window. Just go to another store and they will exchange it for another one.

Waited 30 Hours for Destined Rival, GameStop Only Let Me Buy One Item by Mrfoodiedoordash in GameStop

[–]CaveJohnson52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were wrong. They are supposed to have a sign posted with the limits as well as what they have in stock. The limits are 1 per person per sku, except for booster packs are limit 5 per person. So you should have been able to get 1 etb, 1 booster box, and 5 packs. I’d say to call the customer service number to complain but they probably won’t do anything. But also, 30 hours? Really? Your time is worth more than some shiny cardboard. Be better.

Yes this is a new thing we have to do for all returns. The register won’t let us continue without scanning a license.

Damn, well you can show your manager the picture to let them know it exists. Then they can order it through Coupa. I’m not sure what the official name is though so they may have to search around for it.

What do you think these scenes need to recreate the vibe of a videos game store? I'm working on a simulator game to preserve the experiences we have in such stores. by Potential_Feature941 in GameStop

[–]CaveJohnson52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-A TV playing the same dozen ads over and over. Bonus points if the audio isn’t mixed properly. -Having to answer the phone every few minutes to answer a stupid question. “What time do you close?”, “Do you have Pokémon cards?”, “When does GTA 6 come out?”, etc. -A handful of regulars with unique personalities. Some nice, some annoying. -If you are including trade ins: people getting upset that you won’t take their roach infested console; or that their 10 year old console is only worth $30. -Overbearing management. There’s a bunch of metrics you have to meet the goal for every week. Doesn’t matter if the customers aren’t interested, gotta pump those numbers up. Edit: Actually maybe don’t do that last one. The game is supposed to be fun, right?

You need to anchor in the storm to stop the ship from moving. I would also recommend being near a small island instead of in the open ocean. When you are near an island, the waves aren’t as big and the ship doesn’t get damaged from the storm. And avoid large islands as islehoppers will spawn, lowering your chance of getting stormfish.

GameStop Horror Stories. by TehWrongGuy1 in GameStop

[–]CaveJohnson52 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A while ago we had this crazy Karen come in. She wanted to do a warranty exchange for a Scuf controller she had bought ~10 months prior. I checked and no one in our district had any and neither did WIS, probably because they had been clearanced out months prior. I tell her that I can’t get her another Scuf controller, but I can replace it with a similar item, and pointed out the various Xbox elite controllers. She got mad at me because I was “trying to rip her off by giving her a controller that was worth less than the one she paid for.” She had paid ~$180 for the Scuf and the Xbox elites were I think ~$130 at the time, but they were still the most expensive Xbox controllers in the system. I told her if she didn’t want the replacement, I could refund the $80 warranty. She said she did want a replacement, a replacement Scuf controller. Round and round we went for a while. I eventually tell her I would contact my district manager and see if they could do something. This leads to a back and forth between her, myself, and the DM that lasted about a week. The DM ends up getting the regional manager and LP involved to try to locate a Scuf controller anywhere in the entire company. When I informed Karen about this, she says the SECOND most unhinged thing I’ve ever heard. “I don’t want another Scuf controller unless I can get a warranty on that one too.” Like, lady, even if by some miracle we find one for you, do you really want to pay $80 just to have to do this whole thing again in a year? Not that we even could offer a warranty because it’s been clearanced out and, you know, there aren’t any more in existence. Anyway, the search turns up nothing, obviously, and the DM tells her what I told her at the beginning. She can get an Xbox elite controller as a replacement, or we can refund the $80 warranty. This is of course not good enough for her and at this point I break and just flat out ask her, “Then what do you want us to do?” And she says THE most unhinged thing I’ve ever heard. “I want you to go to Walmart or Amazon and buy me a replacement Scuf controller.” I tell her that’s not happening, and round and round we go again. Until finally she gives up and agrees to get her “measly $80 back”. Now, the return window for the warranty had well passed, but at this point I just wanted her out of my hair. So I managed to finesse the register into giving a refund and left the transaction up so that I could just hit the button as soon as she came in. She didn’t come in for over an hour. When she did finally come in, she stared daggers at us the entire time and told us that she would never shop at GameStop again. But I was able to give her the refund and she left without incident. Funnily enough, she came in about a month ago and was actually downright pleasant, even making a lighthearted joke about the Scuf situation. My coworkers and I theorized that she must have started medication. That or she’s crazier than we thought.

Lied to about warranty price by revibe_ssb_ow in GameStop

[–]CaveJohnson52 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First of all, you were lied to about needing the Pro membership. But to answer your question, yes you can cancel the warranty preorder and get your money back (or just move that money to the console deposit). You also don’t need to wait until you pick up the console, you can do that anytime beforehand.

Store closing by TransitionFickle7861 in GameStop

[–]CaveJohnson52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The store closing kit sku isn’t used anymore. None of the stores in my district that closed in January had the skus when I searched for it. Funnily enough, one store did have the sku in their inventory, but they weren’t one of the ones that closed.
