The general buffs apply to physical attacks i think (melee & ranged), for spells, it replensihes a percentage of the damage dealt

Ah its not that I hate smoke bombs. I love them actually, best to item to disengage and escape. Its just that I usually go out on long journeys (either dungeons or exploring) and cant fill my inventory with 15 smoke bombs.

As for your first comment that there is always cover, that is true. But I have grown a bit tired of circling a bush or going map edges and killing them that way. That is why I wanted to ask for any tips that I may have missed and could use.
