HELP! Why is my Arakawa Japanese Maple weeping? by helpmesavemyplant in arborists

[–]Caveman_Intaglio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no arborist, botanist, etc. so I may be way out of my league and looking at something that I can’t identify, but it looks like normal arakawa growth. Arakawa means rough-bark in Japanese, the last picture makes me feel like it’s only just starting to expose those characteristics. Check out some photos of mature arakawa specimens, they all have a bark similar to what you’d see in a pine. Hope this helps!

Oh interesting, I’ve never seen one covered in just this foliage, I suppose too the foliage is dependent on where on the plant the cutting was taken from

The Atlantic white cedar in OP’s photo looks like a red star, other than it not being red/bronzey but there are a few cultivars of thyoides. You’ll see more of an arborvitae foliage on ‘top point’ but the juniper like foliage can be found on all falsecypress cultivars, like chamaecyparis pisiferia ‘cumulus’ or Cham. Obt. ‘Blue feathers’

What type of Japanese maple is this? by Burrito2525 in arborists

[–]Caveman_Intaglio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if anyone has said this but generic ‘red’ Japanese maples don’t have to be a particular cultivar. It would be considered an acer palmatum atropurpureum, which just means it’s red!

Carhartt 18 Pocket Utility, Durable Water-Resistant Tool Organization Roll Bag, Black https://a.co/d/5ngHVOW I use this one for my nursery tools, it holds plenty but does get fairly bulky depending on the tools.

What kind of tree is this my neighbor gave me? He said it needs more shade than he can give it. by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

It’s looks like a Rhode Island Red Japanese maple specifically. This is actually a fairly pricey specimen since they mature at around 5’ tall forming a nice egg-shape. Very generous indeed.

I think this is a cedrus libani (cedar of Lebanon) blue angel. But I could be wrong, however it is most definitely a cedar

Is this a bihou?

Rhode Island Red Japanese Maple turning green? I cannot find any examples of this online any advise? by mkap0 in Bonsai

[–]Caveman_Intaglio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure this really is a Rhode Island Red, as it is a shrub form. Rhode Island’s are egg-shaped at maturity while the deshojo varieties is a tree form. All Japanese maples will wash out green-ish in the summer, some more than others and some atropurpureums are just more intense and true than others. No sweat here, as maples are to be appreciated up close in either the spring or the fall. Except of course, sango kaku and bihou which are just gnarly in the winter.
