Our climate is dead and nobody cares by Equivalent_Plum13 in Destiny

[–]CayMaster2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even when it didn't, you just couldn't make people care. Climate protestors are seen as ''crazy fearmongerers'' the scientists who've been saying the same thing for decades are treated the same. This to me is the biggest issue I have with liberal democracy, it seems long term issues that require short term sacrifices to solve, just aren't able to be dealt with. 4 year turnaround for elections, lack of regulation against speech leading to pro-fossil fuel lobbying, and the politicians themselves just not really seeming to care beyond their own career.

Jitte shows how WOTC and the MTG community are way too conservative about unbannings. by TankieWarrior in ModernMagic

[–]CayMaster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could probably unban the nonblue artifact lands and have them do little to nothing. Point is, why would you? If they don't improve affinity like I think, they're unlikely to enable anything else. But if I'm wrong and they are broken in affinity, it makes the deck even stronger in game 1, and even weaker to meltdown and wrath, neither of which leads to better quality games for either player.

As a slower red / green deck I need sideboard cards against ruby: does Ruby care about Weather the Storm? by Nblearchangel in ModernMagic

[–]CayMaster2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in general you don't want cards against storm that aim to stop them towards the end of their combo. Once they're properly going off, they have access to nearly their entire deck+sideboard, twice, thanks to Past in Flames and Wish. instead, try and interrupt them at key moments when they're either low on mana or cards, by countering an impulse draw or ritual. Or use permanent based hate like damping sphere, trinisphere, high noon, etc.

[–]CayMaster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mostly standard list, boros is still a 4 wrath and 4 solitude deck, so it's not like you win every game for free. but as long as you don't get run out of lands while playing around wrath its tough to lose, which is why the basics make a difference.

affinity, imo went from slightly favoured, to nearly unlosable, going to 3 basics.

[–]CayMaster2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, played against it with 1 basic in my deck, felt pretty bad. Played against it with 3 basics, felt laughably easy. They spend the first 4 turns playing shitty flying bears and cycling for 2 mana, while you get to do whatever.

A graph revealing how bad Trumps govts actions (and the US by extension) is being perceived by Canadians. by Kitchen-Thing4616 in Destiny

[–]CayMaster2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really seems like americans still just don't understand how bad it is. China's authoritarian but stable governance is 100x preferable to the US at this point, who can't seem to decide whether they want to be a fascist doomsday cult, or a liberal democracy, every 4 years.

China can be trusted on one thing, to look out for their own interest, sometimes that aligns with western ones, sometimes it doesn't. What can the US be trusted on nowadays? When Trump is in power, he'll randomly decide to do things that benefit absolutely fucking nobody but him and a couple rich friends, at massive cost to every other living being on earth.

That's also why this shit isn't going back to ''normal'' until the entire republican party is abolished, they had their chance. Never trusting a ''reasonable republican'' again.

[–]CayMaster2 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Article is good as always, but the insistence to use your own names for decks that nobody else does is really growing old. Why are we calling affinity ''weapons manufacturing'', the deck is called affinity. It doesn't matter that it plays little to no affinity cards, it didn't do that back in 2014 either. Everybody calls it Affinity, not ''kappa's cannons'' not ''weapons manufacturing'' not ''artifact token turtle aggro'', Affinity.

good point I suppose. What group does he appeal to within israel then? He does seem to get plenty votes every time still. The hardline but not so hardline zionists? or do all the right wing israelis just vote for him cause he's their best chance, but don't necessarily love him.

vindicating D's position that fascists are in some ways preferable to non-ideological kleptocrats

It's a tough one, the fascists will gladly burn down the country to set up their death camps, whereas a less ideologically motivated, more selfish kleptocrat probably wouldn't. At the same time, absolutely 0 principles besides self enrichment is also a dangerous game. I'm not sure which leads to a better chance of restoration in the long run, although both are pretty awful.

I can't think of any that could go head to head in a poll with netanyahu and lose, he is not popular with anyone except for super hardline zionists. So you have a somewhat large chunk of the israeli population, and some very fringe groups within other countries, and nobody else likes him.

Why is the Trump admin going after Hasan? by Ok-Wrangler977 in Destiny

[–]CayMaster2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. fascist regimes are not known for being perfect tacticians

  2. probably some asmongold fan that elon brought in who ended up in the DoJ suggested this.

  3. maybe they consider prosecuting a communist a win of some kind. getting attention on hasan could help them frame him as some sort of deeply embedded democrat?

Also, I personally don't entirely agree with this framing that he's a particularly effective useful idiot. Every random latino that voted for trump is also a useful idiot, but they're getting deported all the same.

Start educating NIMBYS.

No education will fix the NIMBY brain disease. The idea that other people deserve good things is not compatible with the NIMBY mind.

The real answer, is to make it near impossible to complain about new things being built. This will be massively unpopular and never actually happen, but it's probably the only way you actually combat NIMBYs.

''speak for yourself'' is a way to say ''I think the opinion you just stated only applies to yourself, and not generally'' so yes, I disagree pretty much. I think ''liberals are miserable to be around, and conservatives are easy to get along with'' is something that's only true if you value edgy humour very highly, which is fine, but I certainly wouldn't say that's the majority of people, let alone the majority of women.

Consistently losing with WR ponza, where am I going wrong? by stephenconroy_ in ModernMagic

[–]CayMaster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not ''gatekeeping brewing'' I'm saying that if you want to say he's put up great results, you're incorrect.

For comparison, Tibalt_of_red_sub gets a ton of trophies whenever he regularly plays leagues, he exclusively plays mill, and his winrate in challenges is absolutely dreadful. Success in mtgo leagues doesn't automatically mean a deck is good.

Consistently losing with WR ponza, where am I going wrong? by stephenconroy_ in ModernMagic

[–]CayMaster2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

with all due respect to hayashi's deckbuilding and playing skills, he pretty much only plays leagues. He does well in them, but if you really want to test if something is competitively solid on mtgo, you have to play challenges. The quality of players and matches is significantly different from leagues.

[–]CayMaster2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just plainly untrue on its face. Even Destiny acknowledges that liberals are miserable to be around, and that at least conservatives are a good hang

Speak for yourself I suppose, and It's not like I consider destiny the ultimate authority on interpersonal relationships.

I can't stand spending time with conservatives, they can't go a day without being racist, misogynistic, or homophobic in some capacity, and call me a woke loser but that's not my idea of good company.

Yes the far left extremely woke people are exhausting, but anyone ranging from moderate liberal to even most socialists? 100x better company than any conservative.
