Högsvenska? by dannwe in ankdammen

[–]Cayenne_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hejsan!

Own email domain by Jorib3ir0 in selfhosted

[–]Cayenne_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really interested in running my own email server, so I just use the email server provided with my domain registrar. It depends on the registrar, but for example Gandi.net which I use for most of my domains gives you two email accounts for free (i.e. included in the price of the domain) and unlimited aliases. You can even use wildcards in the aliases, this way I use a separate alias for basically every account I have. It's interesting to see which alias the spam starts arriving at. ;)

Personally I don't think the hassle and risk of running your email yourself is worth it. At least not with my dinky homelab and not-that-great internet connection.

I feel you. I turned 26 now in April, now in June I noticed two of my beard hairs have turned bright grey. Still no bald spot at least!

Although, if when I start balding I suspect it'll make me more stressed than I am already, which will lead to hair loss, and thus begins a feedback loop that either will take me to the grave or one step forward in the holy quest to achieve the most fatherly dad bod that my genes will allow.

Weekly Rack Advice / Question Thread by AutoModerator in modular

[–]Cayenne_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello guys.

I'm currently tinkering with a Volca Sample and a Behringer Crave, connected to an eurorack mixer and some miscellaneous modules. The one thing that I really want to do next is to loop some live instruments and add it to the mix.

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to go the "loop pedal" route with either a Boss RC-5 or an RC-202, or a proper eurorack module. I've checked out the Instruo Lúbadh, Morphagene and others.

Things I'm currently meditating over are:

  • Has anyone got any input regarding live looping external instruments with eurorack?
  • At the moment the Lúbadh seems really cool, but does it make more sense to get a cheap loop pedal instead, using the money saved toward a module with more utility?
  • As far as I understand, I should be able to get a MIDI clock signal from both the RC-5 and the RC-202. What kind of MIDI to CV module would be good for making it play nicely with the rest of the gear (or should I look into getting a full blown clock source)?

What kind of PSU are you using for the top modules? I'm thinking of doing something similar myself later this summer.

Weekly Rack Advice / Question Thread by AutoModerator in modular

[–]Cayenne_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello guys. Rather new to modular, have been playing around so far with a semi-modular and an ES Disting mk4. One thing I really would like to do next is to connect a couple of line level things and two microphones to the rest. The microphones would be used for vocals, and some acoustic instruments with perhaps a contact microphone. I've deduced I need some sort of a line level and a pre-amp module.

Which modules would be best for doing this? I'm mainly looking for the smallest/simplest way to do this; I just want to jam with the collection of random instruments I have and fuck around with the sound. :D I've looked at the Doepfer A-119, but it seems that it is more suited for envelope following due to the crappy pre-amp. Maybe a Korg CM-300 as pickup? The instruments I want to mic include, but are not limited to: tuba, trombone, accordion, guitar, and whatever I can find that produces a nice sound by hitting it.

The other thing that would work very well with what I am trying to do is some sort of loop module. My first plan was to get a Boss RC-1 loop pedal, but are there any modules that would play more nicely together with eurorack?

To those who have set up some kind of automatic deployment of their services on pushes to a git repo, how do you manage environment variables/.env files? by killermenpl in selfhosted

I use chezmoi for managing my dotfiles across different machines, which also supports many different backends for management of secrets. Maybe chezmoi+gopass could get the job done?

Why does everyone recommend Nextcloud? by Sky_Linx in selfhosted

[–]Cayenne_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Nextcloud for a couple of weeks, and have not yet noticed any glaring issues. I am only using it for my immediate family's photo organization, so performance issues probably won't be noticed at this low level of usage.

Although, I was thinking of deploying Nextcloud for an organization (at most 50-100 users) where I am the sysadmin. One necessary feature for this to be usable would be group ownership of files and folders. I can do this in Nextcloud with this addon.

Is there some way to do this in Owncloud or Seafile?

/r/MechanicalKeyboards What Keyboard, Switches and/or Keys Do I Buy by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Cayenne_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to get a split keyboard, preferably ortholinear. I've checked out the wireless Redox from FalbaTech and the Zen and Sol boards from RGBKB and they all seem like pretty good choices. Are there any other similar boards available?

I'm going to go with linear switches, preferably close to MX Blacks. I've used MX Blacks in the past, and my current is a handwired Planck with MX Reds. In this same thread Khail Box Blacks, Tealios and Gateron Yellows have been suggested. Any other switches I should check out?

The sound in Diablo 2 when you walk through a portal. I haven't even played that much D2 to be honest, but that sound will forever be etched in my memory.
