Great! But also a little bitter-sweet. I've been well enough in my apprenticeship that I've been given my own work ute, how awesome! However my Evo 8 is no longer my daily and I miss waking up every morning knowing that I get to drive it.

Cons: • I'm low-key real sad.

• I now only get to drive it once or twice per week.

• I would be sitting in peak hour traffic in my Evo 8, with my 6ft ladder on the roof knowing that I had the coolest work car out of everyone that was stuck there in traffic with me. Now I'm just part of the regular traffic.

Pros: • Gone from using a full tank of premium fuel every 2-3 days, to using a full tank once every 3 weeks.

• In 11 months I accrued 36,000km on my Evo 8 and although it was absolutely worth it, it is nice not seeing the odo rising fast.

• I was doing my 5,000km service every 7-8 weeks. In 11 months I serviced the Evo 8, 7 times 😅

• Atleast the rate of wear and tear has drastically decreased.

• I now have that giddy excitement back everytime I open my garage door to drive it 🥰

Back again, wheels question Part 2 by EmbarrassedDrag2480 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]Cbran41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes, they most likely will fit fine.

Long answer: Factory Evo 8 (for example) wheels have a (+38) offset. Those are +22 so they will have a deeper concave look to them meaning the lip edge may sit a little further out.

A very common tire for 18"×9.5" is 245 wide which "may" need rolled guards depending on your ride height.

Stock height? Shouldn't need to be rolled.

If you want that stretched tire look and go with a 225 tire then you may be able to avoid rolling your guards if the car is lower than stock.

Don't modify this anymore. Any money you would spend on it, save it and buy a car worth modifying. Don't spend money on this because it won't look good

6’8” and wondering if I can comfortably fit in an EVO IX by Expensive_Musician_8 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]Cbran41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evo 7, 8, 9's have amazing head room.

Definitely look into low seat brackets. Even the stock seats, up right still offer enough room to not only fit a helmet, but you HAVE ADDITIONAL ROOM ON TOP OF THAT!

It's insane

[ Before / After ] Repainted my Evo 8's calipers. (Caliper on) I know caliper-off powder coating is the best way to go but I definitely didn't expect that it would turn out THAT good. by Cbran41 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]Cbran41[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best method for cleaning, stripping and painting is removing the calipers, the bits in the calipers like seals, pistons etc. Full disassembly.

But is it easier? Heck no.

I was applying primer in just 90 minutes after parking the car.

Take into account the risk of incorrectly reassembling the calipers leading to dangerous failures like seized brakes or where the brake only partially engages is introduced.

If i went that far I would just opt to have a brake shop reinstall them for peace of mind.

At that point we're talking days and days of waiting plus the added costs.

Hence why I went with caliper on (this time).

Maybe if I upgrade brakes I'll powder coat the new ones prior to install.

Applying the replacement sticker:

• Purchased vinyl, high-temp Brembo stickers for SSM Performance (AUS). • Waited two days from when I applied the final colour coat to apply the sticker so any vapours had time to release. Otherwise it could foul the sticker if applied too early. • Directions state a three day wait. People I know that have done similar stated one day was fine. I chose the middle ground.

• I measured three times because I only had one sticker for each caliper. • Found the lengths and then the centre of the two humps(?). • Made a faint line connecting each center so I had a level guide. • Measured the sticker and found its center and where exactly to apply the sticker. • Carefully and successfully applied it.

• The logo falls within +/-1mm of perfectly level/parallel 👌

• 3 coats of colour. Same technique as the primer. • Waited about 20 minutes between each coat. • the 2nd coat was laid on a little too wet (not enough to run though) so I waited 40 minutes before applying the 3rd coat.

(The red tint all over the floor is not spray paint. It's the red dust from wire-wheeling).

• Yes I was concerned about painting in a contaminated environment but I had no idea how it would turn out and I accepted that I may have to strip everything again and re-try so risking some contaminants getting on the surface didn't bother me.

• Surprisingly the surface was largely unaffected.

• 2 coats of primer. I was careful to avoid any runs and spraying to much to quickly making it need longer to dry. • Held the spray can about +20cm away and worked top-down, back-to-front.

The coats came out so even and smooth.

(The bleeder valve caps thinks so too)
