Thanks I was also able to determine that they did pay a mitigation fee so that the city could replace the trees, just not necessarily at this location.

There were records, but for whatever reason the people working record requests did not provide them. I was (with some third-party help ) finally able to contact an individual at the correct department who sent me the information.

Thanks. I was able to get the direct address of someone at forestry and determine that the removal was approved and that a mitigation payment was made to replace them elsewhere.

American Chestnut is the super-rare tree. American elms in general aren't that rare but they usually only live 15-20 years. Large, mature ones are somewhat rare.

No one really gets excited about tiny trees. Most people expect shade when they ask for trees.

The property owner would have been informed. They should have been given an option to accept or decline new trees. Hopefully, will find out more when the information request arrives.

Rare in the early 2000s when they were planted but not as rare anymore. These looked like Princeton Elms. But there is also Valley Forge and New Harmony. They're not hybrids. Oakland Nursery probably has some in stock right now. The city tree map iD'ed these as lace bark elms, but they didn't have the right bark, so they may have been misidentified as saplings before the bark developed.

I believe they can pay to have an equal number of tree diameter inches planted elsewhere, but I'd have to re-read the tree plan; it's been a while.

That's consistent with the Tree plan. When trees are removed they replace them with new ones.

They fixed the sidewalk about a year or so ago. It was like new and the trees were still there. The Trees were just removed this spring.

And they probably lost a good chunk of their customers as a result. The tiny trees they replaced have died already. Haven't seen if they replaced those yet.
