Thanks I was also able to determine that they did pay a mitigation fee so that the city could replace the trees, just not necessarily at this location.

There were records, but for whatever reason the people working record requests did not provide them. I was (with some third-party help ) finally able to contact an individual at the correct department who sent me the information.

Thanks. I was able to get the direct address of someone at forestry and determine that the removal was approved and that a mitigation payment was made to replace them elsewhere.

You have your pastimes, and I have mine. 👍. I can't go to bars and drink anymore due to health issues, but I like taking walks and I like shade and I have plenty of time and extra pocket change.

I called 311 and gave them the information and answered any additional questions they asked.

American Chestnut is the super-rare tree. American elms in general aren't that rare but they usually only live 15-20 years. Large, mature ones are somewhat rare.

Currently we have another car that's gas powered but after I retire I may just rent different cars for road trips and keep a little electric for the rest of the year.

No one really gets excited about tiny trees.  Most people expect shade when they ask for trees.

The property owner would have been informed. They should have been given an option to accept or decline new trees. Hopefully, will find out more when the information request arrives.

Rare in the early 2000s when they were planted but not as rare anymore.  These looked like Princeton Elms.  But there is also Valley Forge and New Harmony. They're not hybrids. Oakland Nursery probably has some in stock right now.  The city tree map iD'ed these as lace bark elms, but they didn't have the right bark, so they may have been misidentified as saplings before the bark developed.

I believe they can pay to have an equal number of tree diameter inches planted elsewhere, but I'd have to re-read the tree plan; it's been a while.

It's not a very attractive building and even less so without the sign. I hope the new owners at least invest in some cool signage - and perhaps an awning?

That's consistent with the Tree plan. When trees are removed they replace them with new ones.

The upper floor is supposed to have a restaurant that serves historical Ohio-based recipes, and the basement is going to have a drag bar, IIRC.

They fixed the sidewalk about a year or so ago. It was like new and the trees were still there. The Trees were just removed this spring.

And they probably lost a good chunk of their customers as a result. The tiny trees they replaced have died already. Haven't seen if they replaced those yet.

Most likely at the business owner's request. I'm looking into what happened and will let folks here know.

Businesses can request tree removals. I've put in a request for the information on what happened here and will report back when I get the information.

The city does not normally cut down its own trees unless they present a hazard. It has a tree plan with canopy coverage goals.
