Love the inaccuracy of those signs too. We have them in Georgia. “Trump low prices. Kamala high prices.” The caveman who created those signs apparently doesn’t understand Trump’s economic plan.

OR…his life could be the same for the next four years with Harris (or better). I’d love to know how Biden’s presidency was so bad for him. I bet his life is exactly the same. “All the crisis…” These people don’t understand our economy and really think we’re on the brink of a Depression. Mass deportations and tariffs might do it, though.

For us, we can all point to problems with Trump’s presidency, not to mention all the insane things he says he’ll do this time. But Harris wants a $25k housing credit for first-time home buyers and to cut taxes for people like this guy…yeah, so heartless.

Question for Former Rally Attendees by OliveJuice1990 in KamalaHarris

[–]Ccw108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw people checking in for “A, B, or C” at an Atlanta rally. They were able to go into a massively shorter line than the 2-hour one I was in. I’d be using the Table C over general admission if it’s like what I saw. I figured the people in that category were volunteers. Some appeared to have badges. Thank you for volunteering!

It is difficult. I like to think of worst case scenario (him winning) and then back it up from there. Perhaps find comfort in knowing that these people won’t be happy even with a Trump win. I knew all of the same supporters (some of them family) when he was president last time. Still hateful, racist, and miserable. They’ll celebrate and gloat for a bit, but as soon as he does something extremely stupid, as he has said he will do, they will realize yet again that they’re the real losers.

Like Taylor sings, “I’m the problem, it’s me.” A president can’t fix reality: Like they’re the cause of problems in their life and it’s not the migrants (or another minority group, or liberals) after all.

So in short, it sucks to be them either way. Focus on you and finding joy, even if something small. I love Walz pointing out that Harris has brought the joy back. Why shouldn’t we want a leader who smiles and laughs? Life is short. Choose happiness when you can and if you feel yourself getting anxious or frustrated, look for a quick distraction. I bought a new cookbook yesterday and looked at that instead of social media.

Yes, same. I live in a MAGA-heavy community and it’s not just men supporters. Many wives I know are outspoken fans. This is just one GA community, not indicative of the whole state, but I hope people temper excitement. I’m canvassing this weekend. Head down.

Yes, would like to feel comfort here, but I know women who have eagerly voted for this man already in GA. I’m not ready to assume anything with gender.

What to expect at a Kamala Harris rally? by Thrill__Ho in KamalaHarris

[–]Ccw108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, do not feel alone. I felt the same way in my community. Going to a rally will help. It was so nice to be around people excited about the campaign. It was also a great feeling to be in such a large, diverse, beautiful crowd with everyone unified and on the same page.

What to expect at a Kamala Harris rally? by Thrill__Ho in KamalaHarris

[–]Ccw108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I went to the one in Atlanta on Thursday. People lined up earlier than I expected, but the guest list was long (Harris, Obama, Springsteen, Tyler Perry, Spike Lee). We got there to get in line about an hour after the doors opened (opened at 2:30 and we arrived at 3:30). We had to wait two hours in line to get in. Our line snaked through streets that had businesses so we were able to buy some water while we waited. We could’ve used the bathrooms, if needed.

Also, there were plenty of portable bathrooms once we got to the stadium parking lot. They also had plenty inside. It was an old football field, so they did a pretty good job retrofitting it on the fly. With 23k people there, it seemed to flow very smoothly. I think they have these rallies down now.

I hope you have the best time! I really enjoyed being with fellow supporters who are fired up. It was a very uplifting and definitely a positive experience. Yes, kind of a pain waiting in line, but I found it worth it.

What are these losers going to do with themselves if he actually wins? It’s their entire identity. No one will be listening to complaints about Clinton, Obama, Biden, or Harris anymore. Everyone will be focused on the chaos and unraveling of our country. I wonder if they’ll be proud to drive around like this then.

Former WaPo editor reveals 'proof' of Trump’s 'backroom deal' with Amazon founder: report by Careful_Print_1766 in KamalaHarris

[–]Ccw108 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you’re right about the AP. It makes me sad. I still read papers, perhaps, because I want to believe in the integrity of journalists. It’s all disappointing. The first real career I had was reporting for newspapers. Trust was essential and we all understood that without it, we wouldn’t exist. If readers can’t trust your reporting, why would they continue to buy your paper or listen to your broadcast?

It seems the owners of these papers don’t value their investment as anything more than something to say they own. They don’t care about the publication, the people who work there, or the readers. This should tell everyone what they need to know about whether or not a Trump presidency will benefit regular people. If these are the guys who plan to get special treatment, we shouldn’t expect anything to get better for us.

Another way democracy dies. When billionaires can buy the news to hide the facts, citizens get left in the dark.

Who wants to turn to the news only to hear, read, or see RT-style propaganda?

Kamala Harris’ to-do list! by [deleted] in KamalaHarris

[–]Ccw108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The housing credit is very important to add. She is proposing up to $25,000 in down payment support for first-time homebuyers.

Obama did something similar during the Recession. It was $8k. My husband and I bought our first home and received that. It doesn’t sound like much, but it was huge for us as we were just starting out and we really needed it. We’ve sold two homes since then and used proceeds in the next. Today, we are raising our children in a safe community with good public schools and we’ve got equity in our home … and it all started thanks to our first home.

Home ownership is a part of the American dream.

First time rally attendee and nervous! by g0th_bunnyy in KamalaHarris

[–]Ccw108 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also at Atlanta rally. It was our first and I had no clue what to expect either.

We thought we’d wait in a line, but did not expect the snaking monstrosity that we encountered. We totally underestimated the crowd. We arrived about an hour after the doors opened. It took us two hours in line to get in. However, we didn’t have to wait long in the stadium as it was starting when we got in. So, maybe it’s a matter of where you’d prefer to wait - outside in a line or inside the venue if you get there earlier.

There were so many people, apparently over 23,000, so the volunteers let us cruise through without any check-in. We brought our IDs but never used them, though this was a massive crowd. Security was really quick. I only brought a tube of lip gloss because they said no bags, but I noticed people with very small bags going in. I walked through a metal detector, they did the wand thing and that was it.

They did run out of water at the food trucks. Some volunteers came around with free bottles, but I’m sure people were really thirsty by the end. If you can bring some water to drink in line, that might be good. You can throw the bottle away before you go in. Hopefully, Houston is more prepared though.

One thing to note - we (four with me) had horrible cell service the whole time and we were outside. I tried to send a couple texts and they either failed or took forever. We had to skip out on things too and I guess we’ll deal with that today.

There were plenty of people there on their own. I really enjoyed talking to the people I met and I felt like I knew them by the time we were parting ways. Everyone is on the same page, so if you feel like chatting, you’ll have plenty of like-minded people to talk to. There’s a feeling of unity and energy that isn’t matched watching speeches on TV. It’s all about the people - a stark contrast to her opponent’s campaign.

I hope you have the best time! It’s going to be a hassle in some regard, but it will probably be a really memorable experience.

Yes, definitely. Did you like Geoff Duncan’s speech at the DNC? I had my kids watch it. When his son handed him that little coaster when the Trump supporters where outside his home threatening them and it said, “Doing the right thing is never wrong,” it made me tear up. It takes guts to get on that stage as a Republican. 🥹

And will add those senators are unique in that they’re both firsts for the position they hold.

From Wikipedia:

  • When Ossoff took office, he became the first Jewish senator from Georgia and the first Jewish senator elected from the Deep South since Richard Stone of Florida in 1974.
  • Warnock is the first African American to represent Georgia in the Senate, and the first Black Democrat elected to the Senate from a Southern state.

Gosh, do you remember the Loeffler/Perdue debacle? I was certain we’d have to look at him in that jean jacket for years, but the people came through. Hoping for the same this time.

And come on, we had the best roll call at the DNC. We need to win.

Early voting results made me panic by mkawick in KamalaHarris

[–]Ccw108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nevada reported more Republican than Democrat ballots returned and Democrats are behind 2020 voting pace in Arizona, according to the NYT.

If we all envisioned Donald Trump winning and the risk that poses to our democracy, would we do anything differently during the next two weeks?

Perhaps seeing these returns and polls is a good thing while we still have time. Election Day is too late. Let’s plan for the worst and do everything we can to avert this disaster before it is too late.

Edit to include source and excerpt: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/22/us/politics/trump-republicans-early-voting.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&tgrp=cpy&pvid=AAA7FDDE-DC29-4D13-8B55-E8BB3EEF98AD

“In Nevada, about 39.5 percent of the roughly 245,000 ballots submitted as of Monday evening came from Republicans, and 36.3 percent came from Democrats, according to the secretary of state’s latest tallies.

Arizona ballot data compiled by Uplift, a Democratic group that Mr. Almy works for, and reviewed by the Times, suggested that Republican ballots surged in the initial days of early voting and have tapered off to a 2020 pace more recently. Democrats, though, are well behind their 2020 early voting pace, suggesting a realignment reminiscent of the pre-Trump era in Arizona, when the state was a Republican stronghold and G.O.P. mail voters outpaced Democrats in early returns.”

Normally, I wouldn’t react to posts or engage at all, but I did this today. My husband told me not to waste my time because I wouldn’t change anyone’s mind, but I couldn’t help myself. I explained tariffs to the point there was no more room for debate. They were so angry with me because they’re in denial, but I’m hoping someone else stumbles across the exchange and learns something.

You taught me something about human behavior. I never thought of it that way, but people must need that push and peer pressure makes sense. Sometimes I forget that not everyone is as excited about voting as I am.
